12 Days of Christmas Blog Challenge: Day 9

When I think of food/drink at the holidays I think of the hot drinks - I love hot ciders or wassail!! They just make you feel all warm & cozy - even though in Texas it isn't exactly all snowy outside!
Here is one good recipe - there are tons out there and I'm sure you have your own (share it if it isn't a family secret!!)...

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cranberry juice
  • 2/3 cup white sugar
  • 7 cups water
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 tablespoon whole allspice
  • 1 tablespoon whole cloves
  • 2 (20 ounce) cans pineapple juice
  • 6 fluid ounces frozen concentrated fruit punch
  • 1 (6 ounce) can frozen orange juice concentrate

Directions

  1. In a large pot over medium heat, combine the cranberry juice, sugar and water. Bring to a boil and stir until sugar is dissolved.
  2. Place the cinnamon, allspice and clove into a cheesecloth bag and tie shut. Add to the liquid and simmer 20 minutes.
  3. Remove spice bag. Just before serving, add fruit juices. Serve steaming hot.

Another drink recipe that I love (mother made this one year when we had a huge Christmas b'fast at her house) - this is soooo yummy - Orange Julius - this is a really quick & easy recipe, too and it is super good!!

Ingredients

  • 6 ounces frozen orange juice concentrate
  • 1 cup milk, lowfat okay
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 8 ice cubes

Directions

Combine all ingredients, except the ice, in the blender - blend 1 to 2 minutes adding ice cubes one at a time. Continue to blend until smooth.
To spice this drink up you can add a little champagne to make a variation of a Mimosa!! Mmmm!!!!
ENJOY!!
