High & Low Thursday

WOW! This week really got away from me! I mean, it's already Thursday - how did that happen?? It's just been that busy I guess. I still have pictures on my camera from the weekend that I haven't even been able to look at yet. Maybe tonight...

Last night we got to Skype with our good friends that moved to Denver - I got a virtual tour of their new home & Emma got to talk to her friend! He sang her his song he made up about her, "My girl Emma, She is a Gemma!!" (Hey - they are 3!!) He told Emma she was his gf, too!! It was so cute! It's hard to lose good friends, but I think they're coming back for a visit next month and hopefully soon (once they are totally settled) we can make a trip to Colorado, too and visit them. I think that was definitely our HIGH for this week! We chatted for so long I was late getting dinner started. Dinner was good too - we had pork loin chops & Emma's favorite - couscous! I make couscous all the time now instead of rice or pasta. I still use rice sometimes for recipes and well, "noonles" are Emma's favorite so we still cook pasta, too. But couscous is my every day go-to starch! It's yummy & way fewer WW points!

I think my LOW for this week was dishing out $400 to buy two new tires. Ouch! Our tire caught a box blade somehow over the weekend and I had to take it over on Monday at lunch to get it replaced. We had a 2nd tire that had a slow leak so I asked them to look at it and fix it if they could or replace it if they couldn't. Of course, they couldn't fix it so we had to replace that one, too - it had not only a nail in it, but a screw, too!! I think we were lucky we didn't have an accident.

So...what was your High & Low for the week?

Wordless Wednesday "Uncle David"

Uncle David walked & sang Aaron to sleep Friday was so sweet!

He's too loud!

I love this picture!! Emma & Aaron were playing in the hamper on the bed with Michael...they were both laughing & having a great time, but then Aaron decided he was ready to get out! Emma just covered her ears! LOL

This is my cousin's little girl Amira - she is three weeks old now!! They live in Switzerland so I have only been able to see pictures so far - she is such a little beauty though that I just had to share!!!
I love her little scarf in this one!! A definite sign she isn't in Texas in August! :)

High & Low Thursday

So I have two HIGH's for this week! First I'm excited b/c it's a short week for me. I took tomorrow off (I used to be off every other Friday anyway, but I shortened my work day instead and now I work 5 days a week again). And second b/c we will see my Grannie this weekend!!
I don't think I've seen her since Easter!! I talk on the phone all the time to her, but it isn't the same as spending time with her. She turned 96 last month, but no one would believe it!!

My LOW for the week is that I haven't been feeling good at all this week. I don't know if I got a tummy bug or what, but it hasn't been a good week. I hope that relaxing this weekend will get me rested & feeling 100% again. So far yesterday was the worst day - I actually thought we might have bought some bad sandwiches or something, but Michael didn't have any issues, just me so that ruled that out. Soooo...I don't know the cause, but hopefully it's run its course and I will be over it today!

So...take my button & play along! Leave a comment if you do so that we can all share your High & Low for the week! Too often if something bad happens that's all we focus on - this way we're sure to give the good stuff all the attention it deserves to - we should count our blessings every day!!

Fantasy Football Widow

I need this...
It happens every year - first it's the drafts, then the season starts & our Sundays (and some Mondays & Thursdays) are all booked up!! Try going out of town for the weekend when you have to rush back in time for the games on Sunday - it's the reason we go to early service at church, too!! LOL!!!

My niece bought this shirt for Michael for Christmas last year...
I thought it was hilarious - it was perfect for him!!

High & Low Friday Edition

I wasn't able to get my High & Low for the week posted on Thursday like I usually this week we're playing on Friday! How did your week wrap up???

I'll start with my LOW for the week. I told you before that we are redoing our kitchen - a little piece at a time. First we did the granite & got a new awesome sink (I love this sink!!) and the second step was the new appliances. Well, Monday the new fridge & built in microwave were delivered and installed, but the new range was delayed until October 1st. Well, yesterday I got a call that it was delayed until October 8th!!!! Grrrr... so my kitchen is going to be mismatched for a few weeks now. I knew it would be for a little while b/c we haven't replaced the dishwasher yet (we're actually going to get that this weekend, though), but now it's going to be even longer that it all doesn't match.

I was so bummed when I found out...but that brought me to my HIGH for the week, too. To make up for the delay (it was a nation wide delay from Kenmore & Frigidaire) I got a call that they were going to upgrade my new range at no extra cost! WooHoo for good customer service! I still won't be able to get it any sooner, but it was nice...very nice...of them to compensate me for the inconvenience! Good customer service is what keeps me loyal to certain places...if I feel like I get treated badly by an establishment it's rare that I'll ever go back to them and definitely do not recommend them to friends - I'm more likely to ward off everyone to the place b/c the service is shoddy!! So...that being said I'll just let you know that it was Sears that gave me such great treatment! I was considering going elsewhere for the rest of the appliances, but now I'll definitely stick with Sears!

So - please grab my button & share your High & Low for the week with everyone!!

Wait...Don't Leave! I'm here!

I'm just extremely swamped...extremely!! This is a very busy time at work for me and I think I'm getting sick on top of that, so I haven't had much blog time really. I try to post daily, but I can't do it during working hours typically b/c I'm so busy and when I do get some free time at work or home I'm not motivated to write b/c I feel so sluggish - I'm hoping this little bit of cooler weather will help pick up my mood.

I got a chair massage downstairs this morning b/c my head was killing me. It helped a little, but this afternoon I can feel the tension coming back into my shoulders and creeping up my neck. I need to find a way to relax at the office. What do you do? How do you step back during the day to relax and find a calm moment when things are going 100mph all around you? I'd really like to know.

I need to find my zen place at work before I pull one of these:
(I love this movie!!)

Dr. Oz's 100 Weight Loss Tips

I posted yesterday about the Just 10 Challenge I read about. I still think WW is the best tool to use to learn how to eat properly and control portion size (I think portions are the key to a successful weight loss program) - and WW teaches you how to eat for the rest of your life so it isn't a...(faint of heart skip the next word) "DIET"'s a way of life. It truly is.

That being said I think there are a lot of other good tools out there to help people live healthy. These 100 tips are one of those I think. Many of these are common sense, but I still think they are all worthy of the 2-3 minutes to read through them...many follow along with basic WW guidelines, so I am already doing those, but there were several that were like, "Really? Cool, I'll try that..."

So...print these out and read them later if you don't want to go through all of them now - let me know what you think about them.

Dr. Oz's 100 Weight Loss Tips

  1. Automate your eating by planning your meals ahead of time. That way you're less likely to make an unhealthy last-minute food choice.
  2. Oats are your friends! Eating a cup of oatmeal in the morning will prevent you from gorging in the afternoon.
  3. Foods with healthy fats such as olives, salmon and walnuts help you feel satisfied.
  4. Skipping meals can cause your body to go into a fat-storing starvation mode, making it harder to burn calories.
  5. Got nuts with nuts. Eating a handful of nuts will help you stay full. Try soaking them in water for a different texture.
  6. Use meditation to help you cope with chronic stress, which can lead you to crave feel-good carbs.
  7. You may be used to fried foods but there are other, sometimes healthier, ways to cook including: roasting, steaming, poaching, baking, braising and broiling.
  8. Do your grocery shopping with a list and a time limit; that way, you're less likely to stray into the processed foods section.
  9. Don't confuse thirst with hunger. Drink a glass of water when you feel hungry to see if that's what you're really craving.
  10. When out at a restaurant, ask the server to hold the bread, snack mix or chips and salsa that might come before the meal. If you're hungry, you'll be tempted.
  11. Tired of eating your salad on a plate? Fill a whole wheat pita with salad and a splash of lemon for a twist.
  12. You might do better to replace an occasional dinner with a nice roll in the hay. Healthy sex may help control the amount of food you eat and it's great exercise.
  13. Create emergency packs filled with healthy foods such as nuts, fruits or sliced vegetables to help you avoid unhealthy temptations.
  14. Add red pepper flakes to your pantry. When eaten early in the day, red pepper lowers the amount of food you'll eat later.
  15. Odds are you're eating too fast. Try holding a conversation while having a meal so you're not gulping down more than you need to feel full.
  16. Take a brisk walk before lunch or dinner. Not only will you get in some exercise, you're less likely to choose something unhealthy after a little movement.
  17. Looking for the benefits of salmon but you don't feel comfortable cooking fish? Try canned salmon as a simple and affordable alternative.
  18. Are your dishes too big? A healthy dinner should fit on a 9-inch plate. You may find that kid-sized plates are more appropriately sized to feed an adult!
  19. Never eat any snack food out of the box, carton or bag it came in. You're less likely to overeat if you separate snacks into appropriate fist-sized servings.
  20. Boost your metabolism with some green tea or chili peppers.
  21. Get your Zzzzzs. Sleep deprivation alters levels of hormones in the body that regulate hunger, causing an increase in appetite.
  22. Muscle burns at least four times as many calories as fat does, so try twenty minutes of strength straining two to three times a week.
  23. Decaf coffee is a great low-calorie fluid when you're having cravings (and a great source of antioxidants).
  24. Eating liquid-based foods such as natural smoothies and low-sodium soup can help you cut back on calories yet feel full.
  25. A pedometer can help keep track of your steps. If you're not getting 10,000 steps a day, you're not moving enough

Top 2 Tuesday "Accomplishments"

Top 2 things you want to accomplish before the end of the year

1. I would love to get a good laundry routine down. I'm TERRIBLE at keeping up with the laundry. I also try to get ahead so it won't be so overwhelming, but some how time just gets away from me and the laundry is what ends up taking the back seat. Then I end up with a basket of clean laundry and I live out of the basket instead of getting clothes from my closet - so what happens? It gets rumpled and I have to iron it or stick it in the dryer to get the wrinkles out. I don't mind doing the laundry at all - it's just the putting up part I hate and when I don't have that time it's the thing that I push to the side...I need organizing help for my laundry and a good routine that I will stick with!!
2. I want to reach my half-way goal for my weight loss. My goal is to lose 70lbs by the time Aaron's first birthday rolls around. As of over a week ago I've lost about 24 (I haven't weighed this week) so I only have 10 more pounds to go until I reach the half-way point of 35lbs!! I originally wanted to lose it by our anniversary, which is October 2nd, but I don't think I'll be able to lose it that quickly (really don't want to anyway, b/c it never stays off when you lose it too fast). I think by year end I'll definitely at least reach 35lbs, though - our Christmas work party is another good reason to reach at least 35lbs (or more really) b/c I would love to get a pretty new dress a couple sizes smaller, too!! Hee Hee! I've been very proud of myself with my progress so far really. I'm doing Weight Watchers and have to say that it really does work when you follow the plan correctly and it becomes a way of life so you really aren't on a diet - you just learn to be smart and eat right.

I have a lot more confidence that I'll accomplish goal #2, but the first one - well, I don't know about that one!! How do you manage laundry (or whatever your worst chore is) when you just do not have the time to get it all in???? All feedback is greatly appreciated - I need the help!! :)

Just 10 (My goal is still a little higher)

But what a great way to get motivated... and are teaming up to give you something tangible to wear as a daily reminder that you're worth it. Happy Birthday to ME!!!

I'm 33 today - can ya believe it!?!?! It's awesome, though. I'm also shocked when I say my age out lout - I don't feel like I'm in my 30's! But don't they say 30's are the new 20's!?!? Ha ha!

I had a great b'day weekend, too - thanks to my wonderful hubby!! Friday night we went out to dinner (not a b'day dinner, just a dinner out with the kids) and he surprised me with my b'day present & balloons - Emma loved the balloons of course!! I've wanted a new P&S for a while to carry around with me (I ALWAYS have a camera with me) and I've been looking at a particular one for quite a while...I put it on my Amazon wish list, too and I think that's where he found out which one I wanted b/c I hadn't told him. It's the Canon SD1400 & it's a pretty awesome P&S camera - and so small, too! Of course the first thing Emma said was that she could now have my old one - LOL!! She is definitely my little photographer!

Saturday morning Michael went in to work for a while and when we came home we had to clean out the garage to make room for our old fridge - we bought new appliances and we've decided to keep the old fridge to store drinks & such in the garage. It was great, too b/c we culled out a lot of things in the garage that needed to go!!! Then after we went over to my parents' house - they kept the kiddos while we went out to dinner & a movie. Emma told everyone we had a date - it was so cute! We actually planned to spend the night there b/c I didn't know how late we would be and didn't want to have the kids up too late and I also didn't want mother to have to be up in the middle of the night with Aaron if he decided he didn't want to sleep. He was an angel, though & slept all night!! Which I think is b/c the tooth on top that has been trying to come through came in!

The entire weekend was fun & relaxing (except for the part about cleaning out the garage, but I am so glad to get it done) and this morning Michael sent me a text not to take anything out for dinner tonight b/c we're going out for dinner as a family since today is my actual b'day. I have an awesome hubby!! I'm actually going to work from home this afternoon, though b/c our appliances are being delivered today - great b'day present - well, all but the new range. I got a call last night that there was a manufacturer delay and now I won't get that piece until October 1st!!! My kitchen is going to be all mismatched for a while - so no parties till it all looks complete!! It's going to look so great, though and I'm excited about finally getting a nice fridge and a gas stove - I've wanted a gas range for a long time.

Since I woke up this morning my phone has been blowing up with texts & messages from friends on FB, Twitter and just texting me to say Happy Birthday!!! I feel so very blessed to have so many great people in my life and such a great family to share it all with! THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH!!

High & Low Thursday

This has been a busy, busy week for me! Today especially has been swamped. I've already been to several meetings & have several more on the calendar for the next few days. My LOW for the week is how exhausted I am.  Aaron kept me up all night two nights ago and I don't think I've recovered yet. He slept through the night last night, which was great but I need at least two or three nights of full sleep to get fully rejuvenated!! My HIGH for the week is that I have a date Saturday night with my hubby!! I don't know where we are going, but I am really looking forward to it! I can't wait!!! I would love to have date nights on a more regular basis, but lately we have just been way to busy. I'm so glad the summer is over b/c literally every weekend we had something on the calendar - after this past weekend, though I don't think we have anything for a while! Yippee!!! Maybe that means we'll get the chance to have more date nights!

Take my button and post your High & Low for the week.Be sure to link back to your post so we can share...

Sea World & San Antonio

What an awesome Labor Day weekend we had!! We drove to San Antonio with Steven & Jamie & their kiddos on Friday and stayed until Monday morning. We spent Saturday at Sea World & spent Sunday relaxing by the pool & playing and then went downtown San Antonio to eat dinner. The weekend was so much fun & so relaxing - it was great to get away for the long holiday weekend. And the weather was fantastic - we did hit the rain in places driving home, but mostly it was nice!

It's rare to see me in pics, so I wanted to make sure I had at least one picture of me with my kiddos!! LOL!
We were lucky to get to see the new baby whale at Sea World, too that was born back in January.  Her name is Sakari
Aaron loved seeing everything, but slept in my arms through a couple of the shows (including Shamu) and let me tell you the boy ain't light! Ha ha!

We stayed in a cabin this trip and it had a great playground for the kids to play in.
They also spent a lot of time in their swim suits b/c the place also had a wonderful pool - it had a great clubhouse, too with pool, air hockey, arcade games & ping pong (which I beat the hubby in btw!!) are the the three big kids in a rare moment when they were all sitting down together!!
The trip was a blast & we'll definitely look into staying at the same place again - it was so close to Sea World and I thought it was more fun than a hotel for the kids, too. I think it had more RV spots than cabins & we got lucky to reserve the last available cabin so next time we'll have to make sure to plan further in advance in case we aren't so lucky!

And Aaron did great the whole trip, except for at night - I think he really missed his comfy bed more than any of us and had a harder time falling asleep than he usually does. During the day though he was his happy, smiling self!
I took a ton of pics and obviously cannot put them all in my post, so if you'd like to view them click on the picture to advance and you can see everything we did!!

High & Low Thursday

I am so sleepy this morning...I went to bed with such a headache yesterday and today I just feel drained. I have a lot I want to write about - my nephew's wedding over the weekend & our trip to Cleburne, Texas; Aaron's 6 month checkup; the continuation of my kitchen make-over - just to name a few. But I have a lot of other stuff I want to DO now that I'll have to write about later, too!!

So, my HIGH for the week is that we have ordered all new kitchen appliances!! YAY! We could have had some of them this week, but others couldn't come till closer to the week of the 13th, so we've decided to just have them all delivered on the same day. We figured it would be easier to just have everything in a mess all on one day instead of spreading it out over the next two weeks. I can't wait to see how it all turns out. Instead of describing them all now, I'll wait till they finally arrive and are all in place and have an "unveiling post" with pictures. That will be more fun anyway, right??

And my LOW for the week is Aaron's 6 month check up. This past week Aaron's eyes have had a little bit of drainage - really, just a tiny amount and only in the mornings. Well, yesterday morning his left eye (which has not had much drainage) was all red and swollen. I was thankful at least it happened on the morning of his checkup so his pediatrician would be able to see it. She immediately knew what it was (no, not pink eye thankfully) - she gave it a name, but basically it's a skin infection just on his eyelid. She said it wasn't serious now, but didn't want it to spread into his eyeball and very worst case scenario but highly unlikely would be that it get into his brain. So...we did not get his immunization shots, but instead he got a shot of antibiotic and a prescription for an oral antibiotic to take. She also told me to give him Benadryl  every 4-6 hours and come back Friday morning. At that time if everything looks good she'll give him his immunization shots. I'm actually a little bit glad he has to be on antibiotics right now (although typically I really don't like giving my kids meds until absolutely necessary) b/c everyone around me right now seems to have a cough and a sniff going on - at least this way I know he shouldn't get anything else, right??

So, play along - take my button and post your High & Low for the week.Be sure to link back to your post so we can share...
