Dancing for Teta & Geddo

On the webcam

Yay for four day weeks...

Tomorrow is my Friday off & I think today is going to be a short day. It's Go Texan Day so everyone is all dressed up today and there are a few events going on - mostly at lunth, though. Then this afternoon we're leaving early for a happy hour to send off a coworker going to the Denver office. I don't know if I'll stay long b/c Michael may be playing ball after work today and if he is he won't be able to pick up Emma so I'll have to get her...also, if he is playing I'll probably just leave early anyway and get Emma & go to my parents' house for dinner.

Tomorrow I am going to their house for sure b/c mother is going to make Emma's Easter dress. I found the cutest pattern so we're going to go to the fabric store & buy the material & notions for it. It is so cute! I can't wait to see it finished. My parents have company from Egypt coming for nearly all of April, so we're trying to get it done ahead of time!

I've also asked mother to make her a cute little purse to match. I am so thankful for mother's sewing talent! I can barely sew on a button!! HA HA! I have asked for a small simple sewing machine, though - thought maybe I could start learning to make a few simple things - don't know when I'll have the time for it, but we'll see. Mother made every formal gown I ever wore except my wedding dress and I think that was b/c there was so much emotion tied up in it. Otherwise, she would have made that, too! I want to get some fabric that will match some shoes that Emma already has so we don't buy another pair or shoes. Dress shoes for little ones are so expensive. It's unbelievable - and she can't wear them long enough to justify the cost sometimes.

Play a song for me

Quote of the day...

"Tolerance is giving to every other human being, every right that you claim for yourself."

Robert Green Ingersoll
1833-1899, Civil War Veteran, Orator and Political Speechmaker

I found this quote to be interesting when I read it today. I looked up what Webster's actually had to say about tolerance & this is what I found:

tol·er·ance

Pronunciation:
\ˈtä-lərən(t)s, ˈtäl-rən(t)s\
Function:
noun
Date:
15th century

1: capacity to endure pain or hardship : endurance , fortitude , stamina

2 a: sympathy or indulgence for beliefs or practices differing from or conflicting with one's own b: the act of allowing something : toleration

3: the allowable deviation from a standard ; especially : the range of variation permitted in maintaining a specified dimension in machining a piece

4 a (1): the capacity of the body to endure or become less responsive to a substance (as a drug) or a physiological insult especially with repeated use or exposure <developed a tolerance to painkillers> ; also : the immunological state marked by unresponsiveness to a specific antigen (2): relative capacity of an organism to grow or thrive when subjected to an unfavorable environmental factor b: the maximum amount of a pesticide residue that may lawfully remain on or in food

I don't know if I agree with what Ingersoll says Tolerance is entirely (I believe tolerance is basically putting up with things you don't agree with - up to a point, of course!), but I do believe that any right that you claim for yourself you should also extend to those you come into contact with. What's the saying? No man is an island - and this I believe to be true as well. Any courtesy I expect/ask you to bestow me, I in turn should & will reciprocate to you.

I have tolerance for Michael's endless time spent on Fantasy Sports (ha ha) and b/c I expect him to put up with my camera constantly snapping away, I put up with his time spent looking up stats & scores. And he in turn, though he doesn't share my passion for photography (but he sure does love me to print & send him pictures) tolerates it & endures the time I steal the laptop away from him to work on my pictures (b/c I don't want to sit at the desktop).

So - I guess that shows, in my words, an example of tolerance and giving one another the rights that we each claim for ourselves.

Jamie's Birthday Dinner

Last night we met for dinner at Olive Garden to celebrate Jamie's birthday. We had a great dinner - it did take a while to get it, though! We met around 7:00 (Jamie & Steven, Chasity & Willie, Jamie's mom Debbie, and of course all the kiddos!), but didn't sit down until 8:00 I think. So, as you can imagine we were starving by then & were ready for that wonderful Olive Garden salad & breadsticks! I ate way too much & Steven had bought Jamie the best ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins, so of course I had to try a small piece. I was worried about the sugar, but figured I would hopefully be home in bed asleep before it had a chance to give me a headache. The sugar didn't bother me last night thankfully, but we were all in the same boat on eating too much!! LOL!

We had a great time! Jamie's mom took Emma & Katelynn on "walks" around the restaurant while we were waiting to be seated and when they weren't walking they were entertaining themselves with all the Sweet 'n Low, Equal, & Splenda packets! Kids are so funny - the strangest things can keep them amused forever! And Mr. Jacob was just as happy as ever - well had to take turns hugging on him! He was smiling almost all night & then finally conked out before dessert! He missed the best part! HA HA!. He is just growing so fast, I swear he is a different little boy every time I see him! Jamie said the shirt he had on last night was 6-9 months - and it doesn't look like he'll be wearing it too long either! He's a healthy, growing boy!!

It was great to see everyone & I know Jamie was happy to have family come out & celebrate her birthday! She got some cute new pajamas, too - I'm sure she slept comfy last night! On the drive home I was sure that Emma was going to fall asleep herself, but Tinkerbell kept her captivated all the way home. Once we walked into the house, though it was a different story - straight to bed she went!!

And me not far behind her!

Happy Birthday Jamie

I'm a Cowboy

Sunday was Round Up Day at church and all the kids got cowboy hats & scarfs!

Remember

Today was so much fun!! Five of us that graduated together met up at our house this afternoon - we had four little ones here, too and honestly I think the adults were making more noise than the kids!! We kept telling stories from high school and talking about everything that went on and what so-and-so is doing now and we couldn't quit laughing! We realized a while back that next year is going to be our 15 year reunion and said knowing us we better start planning it now - that's what prompted this little get together. We did do much planning, though really - we did more reminiscing really. But it was so much fun! I can't wait till we can get together again!

Michael was our chef - he grilled burgers for us and hot dogs for the kids and jalepeno poppers! They were yummy - along with great sides that Ashley & Hailey brought - Trent & Riki were in charge of the drinks! Great Chianti, btw!

Tomorrow is another full day. In the morning is church as usual and then after that we're going next door - Miss Addison is turning one. I cannot believe she is already about to be a year old. These kids are really growing up way, WAY too fast!! You look away for a second and they are grown!

I also got a chance to do a few more TTV shots today. I got to try out the new Duaflex I got. I do like it, but I don't know if I like the Starflex better b/c it's more "dirty". The Duaflex has a much cleaner lens, doesn't seem to be as aged as much as the Starflex.

The first one below is the Duaflex and the next is the Starflex - what do you think? I like them both, though and like the fact that I have some variety in my TTV shots now. I can't wait to take them both on a photo excursion.

Flower Pots TTV

Street Reflectors

Well, it's been a long, although fun, day & I am really tired and have to get up in the morning for church. So...g'night!

Taking my picture...

In her Tinkerbell pajamas, with her "purse" (my old RAZR phone case), glow in the dark bracelet, Tinkerbell eraser, SpongeBob sunglasses, and red ribbon belt - taking my picture with her cell phone while I was taking her picture with my phone!

Strawberry Shortcake

Michael brought home yummy looking strawberries yesterday & a while back our neighbors taught us a new method for strawberry shortcake - I guess this qualifies as strawberry shortcake - it's yummy anyway!!

img_03801

I cut up the strawberries way ahead of time (try not to eat too many while you're slicing - they are so yummy!) - sprinkle sweetener on them (Splenda, Sugar, Powdered Sugar - whatever you like) and if they aren't juicy enough on there own I add a tiny bit of water to them to make almost a syrup. Give 'em a shake or stir & put them away in the fridge.

That's the hardest part!

img_03711

Next comes the cake - storebought is just as sufficient as homemade in my opinion, but if you prefer to make an Angel Food Cake yourself, please go ahead. Betty Crocker I am not, so we just use the storebought kind! Slice a generous serving for each & place it in a bowl...but...

img_03751

Tear it up real good first! This is the best part b/c you can sneak a bite or two of cake while you're tearing! Nothing neat about this part either - if you're obsessive about them being the same size I guess you could cube the cake with a knife, but c'mon this is more fun & honestly soft Angel Food Cake doesn't cut so neatly sometimes!!

img_03842

img_03852

Now the best part - just heap spoonfuls of the strawberries all over the cake, make sure to get plenty of the syrup, too so the cake can soak it all up, then put a generous portion of whip cream on top! YUM! Emma loves this, too. She got her own bowl last nigtht! She mostly just ate the strawberries & whip cream, though! LOL!

Duaflex came today!

Yay! Now I can have variety with this and the Starflex!

Reason #127 why I love Google...

Miss Independent

Emma has two new favorite quotes - "WHY?" and "I do it myself!!!"

For every answer she gets, whether it's the one she wants or not, she comes back with "Why?" I didn't think she was old enough for all the questions, but apparently so! And anytime she needs to do anything that I normally help her with, like getting dressed, she comes back with the very determined declaration  "I do it myself!!" She actually does a pretty good job of getting dressed on her own, though - she almost always gets her shoes on the right feet & once she figures out both legs don't go in the same hole, she gets her pants pulled up, though a bit twisted! The other day she was in her pj's and disappeared to her room and when she came out she was still in her pj's, just a completely different pair!

Today we're going some place new for Emma - since our office is closed today for President's Day we are going to visit with my friend/coworker that lives very close by. We  have worked together for a long time and she moved close by some time back, but we never seem to get a chance to see one another outside of work! So, last night on the way home from dinner (we went down to the Galleria to meet friends) I sent her a message to see what she was up to today. I think her kids still have school so she'll be home alone - she is getting her house ready to go on the market so even though the office is closed she'll be working hard! I told her Emma would be a good lunchtime distraction!

Just have to say: Right now she is walking around in her pj's, the high heels her daddy got her, one pigtail (b/c she pulled the other one down) with her baby tucked under her arm - she is about to change the baby's diaper b/c she "tinks - ooohh 'ross" - translation She Stinks, Ooooh Gross! Ack - gotta monitor the wipe usage, she'll use them all up! BRB!

OKay - she only had out three by the time I got there. Thank goodness she can't open the powder, b/c that's what she has pulled out now. Oh DESITIN! NO! She CAN open that - I'm a regular hurdler over here jumping over furniture to avert her from covering my living room in creamy butt balm that is hard to wipe off!

Back to my blog post - oh, not yet. Turns out Emma CAN open the powder! As I was typing I was watching her "pour" out the powder, thinking she was pretending and think how cute b/c she was even pretending it was going in the air and she was fanning it away with her hand  - b/c sometimes when I put powder on her, if it clouds in the air she'll fan it with her hands. I thought, "my darling is so imaginative - down to every detail." Yeah - no, she was really pouring the powder out onto the table and floors! Love my dyson, btw! Sucked up most of the powder, then I used the wipes Emma already had out to get in between the wood to get the leftover powder and what was all over the coffee table!!! Guess I won't underestimate her again!

I'll wrap up this post quickly b/c while I was on the floor wiping powder I noticed the dust was kinda thick under the couch, so I need to get that taken care of before we leave...

Mother  is on the road now driving to Broaddus to visit Grannie. Michael and I are planning to take Emma up there soon for a visit, too. Grannie's doctor told her at her last appointment that everything looked great - that she was even ready to go stay at her own house (she's been staying at my aunt's) if she was ready to! What a blessing!!

Okay - time to tackle the dust - which is now nice and white thanks to Emma!

Posing

I shouldn't be surprised she's a ham for the camera - I've had a camera in her face since the day she was born. flickr.com/photos/mishmish/313152955/in/set-7205759413302...

And she loves to show you how pretty she is when she has her hair in pigtails - loves pigtails. Course, I always tell her, "Go show daddy how pretty you are," after I get her pigtails done, too!!

I Love You!

happy-valentines1

Yesterday my honey bunny came in with Valentines for both his girls! A Spa trip & beautiful roses for me & high heel shoes for Emma with big flowers on the top of them! She wouldn't take them off yesterday & everyone she saw she had to point out her shoes & tell them her daddy bought them for her! He's a great daddy & it was awesome that he bought a Valentine for Emma, too! I was almost more excited over that than my Valentine - though, don't get me wrong, I can't wait to use mine!!

Thank you baby! And Happy Valentine's Day - from both your girls! We love you very, VERY much!

My First (real) TTVs

I finally got my contraption put together to use on my Kodak Brownie Starflex for TTV! I am still learning correct settings for good shots & these first shots were just in the house - not the greatest lighting, so when I take it outside I am hoping to get some better shots! This time my percolator & Emma (of course) were my subjects! I am sure Emma will be a frequent subject! What can I say - I'm biased!

Printable Check List

I'm a list maker - an obsessive list maker. If I don't write it down, I don't remember it - made me a great note-taker in college, too! I have lists for everything...groceries, to-do, work items for the day, packing lists if we're going somewhere...whatever!

Via another blog I read, I found this very cool little site - granted if you use Excel you could do the exact same thing - but there are people that do not use Excel & thus this site would be a very useful alternative!checklist

It's called Printable Check List. It's Eeeeeasy! Anyone can use it - and if you have a list you use over and over, instead of printing it you can put it in PDF form and save it to your computer to print over and over again w/out having to recreate it. At work we have software installed already to create PDF files, but if you don't you can use CutePDF - it's free & easy - it's for PCs. Macs some with software already installed for printing to PDF format (smarty pants).

It doesn't have a lot of features - you can't personalize the look - so if you want a pretty checklist use Excel or Word or something else. If you just want an easy, peezy way to make a check list for yourself & like cool tools, though then it's for you!

The Morning After

We had a good time yesterday...both at the happy hour & after! It was fun to be social with my coworkers & loosen up and have a few drinks. When I got home Michael was ready to go out himself so we headed out for more margaritas (that's what we were having at the Happy Hour) if you can believe it! He drank the large while I drank the small so he could catch up!! LOL!! Then it was back home for a wild night watching American Idol that we DVR'd! HA - hey we aren't 25 anymore after all - and we did have to come to work this morning!

We did have a good time, though. Miss my baby girl too much to do it every night, though! One night at a time away from Mommy is enough - we'll go pick her up this evening after work.

Then it's another four day weekend for me. This Friday is my Friday off & Monday we're off for Presidents' Day - last year our extra holiday was during 4th of July. And in the middle of all that is Valentine's Day! I still don't know what I am going to get for Michael - we might just limit it to the date itself as the gifts for both of us!

I brought my camera to work with me today - it's been so gorgeous outside that I thought a picture walk would be nice for lunch today. The radio said it was supposed to be up to 75 this afternoon, so that should be just perfect. I wish I had my TTV setup ready to go, but I haven't finished making my contraption yet. That will be a good weekend project. Tomorrow I'll be stuck at home all day anyway b/c AT&T is coming out to the house - we're switching to Uverse and getting away from Dish & also changing from DSL to the fiber optic network - finally moving ahead with technology! Anyway - they are supposed to be out sometime between 8 & 10, but then the process will take about 4-6 hours, too. They'll set up our home networking/wi-fi, too. I had wi-fi already set up, but they will redo it all using their equipment - which means I'll return the new replacement router I had just bought a couple weeks ago!

So, it's 8+ hours to go then on to my 4 day weekend! Ciao!

Ding Dong...The Budget's Done

Happy Hour

Yay - we're done with changes to Budget & in about an hour will be leaving for  Happy Hour to celebrate its end!! We've only been working on it since the end of August!! October & November were the really busy months for it, but it hasn't been final until now so it's time to have a drink to its finality! :)

Slumber Party

My parents came over yesterday to stay with Emma - she is mostly better now, but I still don't want her passing anything to the other kids or picking up anything else - I am sure her immune system isn't 100% yet - so they came back this morning to stay with her, too. Well, actually to pick her up. They are going to take her back to their house this morning to spend the day/night and tomorrow after work Michael and I will go pick her up. I'm off Friday (and Monday come to think of it - Presidents' Day) so she'll be back with me - can't spend too many nights away from my pumpkin!!

This morning when I left she came to the front door with her Teta to wave goodbye - then she was off like a flash to go sit back with her Geddo to watch cartoons & drink her 'chockit' milk!!

I don't know what Michael & I are going to do without her tonight - we'll have to make a date of it I guess & go out or something!!! WooHoo! We'll have a date this weekend for Valentine's, I know, but if we don't go do something tonight I'm sure we'll be missing her - she's only stayed overnight a few times & it's always been when we had something going on to keep us occupied. It's a lot easier now than when she was so much younger, that is for sure!

Look what came today!

Don't think I'll be able to use the Starflash, but it came with the
Starflex!

Emma Update

Well, she is still sick, but much improved from the weekend. She is still at home today, but my parents drove over bright & early this morning to stay with her at home today while I went back to work - I didn't even have to ask, they just called me last night & said they would come over to keep her for us. She is still acting like she feels just fine - she ate decent yesterday, but not great - though she is getting a lot of fluids in which is good.

I think I might try to go home for lunch & see how she is doing, too. Mother just called & said she ate a good helping of oatmeal for b'fast & now she is sitting in her high chair (she doesn't want to get down - Ha ha!) watching cartoons! She took two good naps yesterday - she normally only takes one. I am sure this just has her run down. I hope she rests good today, too. My sweet girl - I'm ready for her to be well again!

My sick little girl

We've done a lot of snuggling this morning. I hate when she doesn't
feel well.

Might be a four day weekend...

Emma & I are back home now - waiting on Michael to get home. Emma & I might be staying home tomorrow, too though. She has been sick since yesterday evening. I don't know if she has a stomach virus or what - I thought it might be gone today, but she woke up still with a yucky tummy. Even if she is better this afternoon we will probably stay home. If it is a virus I don't want her taking it back to the babysitter's and give it to the other kids - that could be where she got it to begin with. If it's just a 24 or 48 hour thing I would like to get it out of her system before she goes back. If she still has it tomorrow we'll need to go to the doctor anyway b/c  she might need an antibiotic if it isn't out of her system after three days.

Right now I have her drinking Pedialyte to keep her hydrated and we did have a couple doses (per the pharmacist's direction) of children's Imodium and following the BRAT diet - Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, and dry Toast. I'm hoping today is the end of it, though and she doesn't have to get on antibiotics.

She acts fine - she is still running around playing and acting like she feels fine. She isn't running any fever or hurting. I hope Michael and I don't get it if it is a virus - last thing we need is all three of us with a yucky tummy.

She did have a good time this weekend. Saturday at the Commons Cook-off she had a great time playing with her cousins. They got in the jumper (moonwalk) and played forever - they got coloring books and sat in the pavillion coloring - Emma & Isabel ran away from the monster (Mommy) running and screaming in that little girl high pitched squeal! She got new hair bows that Riane and her sister were selling at their booth - they are very cute and they stay in her hair so well. Of course Mommy got herself something, too. Hailey and her mother-in-law were selling cigar-box purses and I found one I really liked with very pretty beads on the handle. I'll have to take a picture later.

My new cameras didn't come in yet - maybe one day early next week they'll be there and then I'll have to plan a photo excursion to go test them out. I had hoped to get to take a lot of pictures at the carnival/cook-off, but we weren't there that long and I was chasing Miss Emma much of the time!

I think I'll take advantage of the quiet time before Michael gets home & nap along with Emma.

Three Day Weekend

This isn't my Friday off, but Michael was taking off today b/c he went out of town so I decided I would take off, too & take care of some things, too. This morning before he left with his friends, we took the car to the dealership - they needed to do an upgrade to the keyless entry and put the plates on. My friend Kim and her daughter are going to pick up me and Emma for lunch then to go get the car. After that Emma & I are going to Teta's house - Geddo is gone for the weekend, too for work so it'll just be the girls. We're spending the night b/c in the morning we'll be going to the Commons in Huffman (where my niece lives) - they have an annual carnival & BBQ cookoff there with lots of rides and things for kids to do and vendors. My nephew's wife will have a booth and my niece and her mother-in-law will also have a booth. Emma will get to see a lot of her cousins, too so I know she'll have a good time!  I think the carnival is all day so we'll see how long we can hang out!

I want to take advantage of the pretty weekend & take some pictures, too. I haven't had too many opportunities to use my new camera yet. I was hoping my new camera (Kodak Starflex) would be here today so I could take it with me. I wanted to start doing some TTV shots. Doesn't look like it will be here though before I leave today. I've done a few in photoshop, but would like to do some real ones.  Hopefully the weather will be nice the weekend after it arrives, too and I'll get to go snap some pictures!

Well, it's almost time for us to go to lunch with Kim & Savana (her daughter) so I'm going to finish getting us ready!

Progress Report: Emma's Scrapbook

So, I think I am about halfway done with Emma's first scrapbook.

I think right now I might print my pages 10x10 and put them in a 12x12 album - center them on the white album inserts - I really don't know yet. I have 13 pages made so far from birth to her first b'day. I have a ton more pictures from that first year, but figured I didn't need to put every single one in there! Plus, I had just about decided to make this for album for year one and year two together - I guess I could make them 8x8 pages and make a mini book for each year! As she gets older & gets more involved in things there will be even more pictures I'm sure. Then of course, when there are siblings & they'll each need their own copy of the family books - I better set a simple precedent now on these albums!! LOL! Otherwise, I might get myself in trouble in the future! The pages in this book are kinda random to as far as design goes. I'll try to be more streamlined with the next so the pages flow better - this time I was just playing with everything I had! LOL!

Surf 'n Turf

When I came home last night Michael had surf 'n turf on the grill with all kinds of yummy veggies! Yummy! I am lovin' this new grill I got him for Christmas - he uses it all the time now! Great food, easy clean up, what else could I, er I mean he, want!!

6 More Weeks

Phil Says "Six More Weeks of Winter!"

Phil's official forecast as read February 2nd, 2009 at sunrise at Gobbler's Knob:

Hear Ye Hear Ye

On Gobbler's Knob this glorious Groundhog Day, February 2nd, 2009

Punxsutawney Phil, Seer of Seers, Prognosticator of all Prognosticators

Awoke to the call of President Bill Cooper

And greeted his handlers, Ben Hughes and John Griffiths

After casting a joyful eye towards thousands of his faithful followers,

Phil proclaimed that his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers were World Champions one more time

And a bright sky above me

Showed my shadow beside me.

So 6 more weeks of winter it will be.

Doesn't he usually see his shadow???

I cannot believe that we've already gone through January! Time is just movin' right along & very quickly!

Yesterday was my daddy's birthday - he turned 65 (hope ya don't mind me sharing daddy!!). Emma & I spent the day with him and my mother to celebrate. My sister and her husband came over for cake and coffee, too! Yesterday was also my BIL's birthday as well - and a coworker's, too! Michael already had plans with friends - I mean there was a big game on or something yesterday! ;) I'm kidding - yes, I know what game was yesterday! The game didn't really get too exciting until the very end and I missed seeing the Boss b/c mother & I were giving Miss Emma a bath. Was he good?

It's beautiful outside today, but another cold front is coming, which I guess agrees with the 6 more weeks of winter. I hope it's a pretty weekend b/c we have outdoor plans for the weekend.

I worked a bit this weekend on Emma's scrapbook - I haven't been spending enough time on it at all - so this weekend I also bought a new set of templates. I figured if I had some new layouts to work with I would be more into it. I've got quite a bit of her first year done. I was going to try to do a book for every year, but I don't know if I'll keep to that, so I though I could do two years at a time maybe. Anyway - that's what her first book will definitely be anyway. After that who knows - maybe I'll just try to do one family album per year - Pamela does that & it seems to work great! I also put up the February desktop yesterday, too. I thought the colors from the poncho & hat mother made for Emma fit nicely with the template!
