Fun Family Weekend

We celebrated Jamie's  birthday this weekend and had a crawfish boil at my parents' house! All were great fun and shared with lots of family. Jamie's b'day celebration was on Sunday at Saltgrass - everyone was there & Jamie got some very nice b'day presents. Her little tummy is finally starting to show! We can't wait to meet the newest family member!

Sunday my daddy and his friend visiting from Abu Dahbi bought a ton of crawfish - there is a place close to their house that has great crawfish every year. Last year I really didn't get to eat any b/c I was pregnant - it just wasn't so appealing! This year, though I couldn't wait to dig in! All of the babies were there, too except for one. It was the first time we've had them all together in a while.

My dad's friend is also a photographer and took some cute candid shots of all the kiddos - and some of me with Emma. I don't have many pictures of us together. I am planning on getting some portraits done for Easter, too so I can have pictures of me with my daughter. Since I'm usually the one taking the pictures I am in very few of them. I haven't had time to upload them yet, but I'll post when I do.

New Mommy Tips: Bottles

Being a new mommy I ask all my mommy friends for advice. What's the best bottle, shampoo, toys, car seat, etc. This advice has helped me so much since Emma has been I thought I would create another category called "New Mommy Tips" and as I find out things on my own I will post it here hoping to help out other new mommies or mommies-to-be so they can benefit, too.

Another reason I wanted to share is b/c after going through several different types of bottles I've finally found the perfect one for Emma. I am still breastfeeding, but of course I have to pump for the babysitter so I've been trying to find the bottle that Emma would like the best. We tried Avent, Playtex, and Medela (these are the bottles that came with the Medela pump I have). All of these were alright, but more of the milk got on Emma's clothes than in her mouth. The Playtex was the best of these, though. So, I figured we'd keep looking.

The only pacifier Emma has ever taken is the Soothie brand - the kind they give babies in hospitals. Soothie also makes bottles/nipples.  Since Emma liked the pacifier so much (she won't take any other kind) I decided to give the bottle a try, too. I don't use anything else now! I did buy the smaller Soothie nipples to try them with the Medela bottles - they fit it pretty well, but b/c they weren't made for them and don't fit just right they still leaked too much.

I only have two. One stays at the babysitters - she just washes it every day and uses the milk I pump. The other one I keep at home - I try to pump and take a bottle with us when we go out - it's easier to have a bottle handy sometimes than trying to find a place to nurse in public. I've also found having only a few  bottles is better, too. If you have a ton of bottles, instead of washing the one you used right away you end up just getting another one out of the cabinet and the next thing you know you have a dozen bottles in the sink to clean!!

Another good thing about these bottles is that when you remove the cap it will snap onto the bottom of the bottle so you don't have to worry about losing it! first New Mommy Tip - try the Soothie bottle!! I hope it works as well for you as it has for us!

No more PB&J

Shoppers across the country were warned to throw out jars with a product code on the lid beginning with “2111,” which denotes the plant where it was made.

After hearing about this I checked the PB I had in our pantry and both jars started with this same product code number (I bought a 2nd jar on a shopping trip b/c I forgot I already had one) they both went into the trash. I love peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and I like peanut butter on graham crackers, too - both treats I've had recently. I didn't get sick so I'm not worried, but I still threw out the two nearly new jars anwyay - just to be safe.

Our baby girl rolled over for the first time yesterday!! She only did it once and hasn't done it since, but hey, she is only 11 weeks old. The fact that she did it once already is super cool!!! I was so excited!!! Her daddy didn't see it b/c he was playing softball, but I called him right away! I've tried to get her to do it again, but when she is ready she'll do it again.

New Digs

Emma got some new digs this week from Miss Pat - she had to try them on immediately of course!!

We made it through my first week back at work...and by "we" I mean me. Emma didn't have an issue - it was just me! Trying to pump at work has been an experience this week, too. I have been so busy (as I already posted about) and trying to find the time to pump is a real issue. Since I went to feed her during lunch this week it was alright, but I won't be doing that every day so I am going to try to pump during lunch, too. As long as I can get at least three bottles a day we should be good - and then on the weekends I am going to try to put a few in the freezer. Now I know why so many people turn to formula not long after returning to work. I am going to try hard to put off formula as long as I possibly can, though.

It has been hard to keep up with stuff at home- after work I only have a few hours before bed and Emma gets most of my time so things like housework suffer - mostly laundry this week. I've had two loads of Miss Emma's clothes this week. I've got them folded and most everything put up, but not all. Michael helped in the kitchen, so it's actually clean. The only other thing that really has been neglected is dusting. I need to get some more of those swiffer dusters - they are great! I'm off tomorrow, though so I am going to try to get those two things (laundry & dusting) done before the weekend gets rolling!

It was fine, though - now we have a nice long four day weekend. Yay!!
This weekend we're going to see Grannie up in East Texas. She hasn't seen Emma since New Year's. She can't wait to see her!!

I am back at work...

and never imagined how hard it would be to leave Emma. The first day was awful. In the morning she was asleep, but then at lunchtime I went to feed her and when I left she was awake. It was a thousand times harder to leave then. It isn't fair - you shouldn't have to leave your kids. I know it is good for her to be with other children and I would never want to be one of those mothers that smother their children, but knowing all that doesn't make it hurt any less. My brain is as equally capable of knowing what's right for my daughter and my heart is capable of hurting when I have to leave her with a stranger...that brings a lot of tears. I know I could never be a stay at home mom - I am not wired that way, but I still hate to leave her. Everyone keeps telling me that it is going to get easier and I know it will. I wish it was a month down the road already, though so I could be at the "easier part"!! :) that's the bad part - leaving her. The good part is I have a great baby sitter.  She is very close to my office so I have been able to go see/nurse Emma during lunch, but I am only doing that this week. She has been keeping kids for 15 years in her home and becomes just like another grandmother to all of them - Grammy to be exact. I am sure it will be the same with Emma. Emma is her youngest right now, but there is one other little girl about a month older than Emma so I am sure they'll be put together a lot and hopefully become friends as they grow up.

Work is so extremely busy right now that during the day I don't have time to think about the fact that she is at the babysitter - which is good. There are tons of changes going on at work right now and lots to be done. After the acquisition last year we have a lot of new people in our group and so on top of the work to be done there are people to be trained and groups to organize.

I have three short weeks in a row, too. This week is my Friday off; next week we have Monday off for Presidents Day; and then the following week is my Friday off again. So, I have three four day weeks and this weekend will be a four day weekend, too! Very cool way to have to come back to work!

I was a BUNCO fill-in tonight...

My neighbor had a Bunco party tonight. She ended up being a person short so she asked me to first I really didn't want to b/c I haven't been feeling well today, but I'm glad I did! I had a good time. She is a teacher and her fellow teachers and her get together to play often it needless to say I was the only one there that wasn't a teacher! At first everyone was talking shop, but thankfully as the game progressed and the wine flowed the conversation got more interesting! Ha ha! Not that teacher talk isn't interesting, but if you are the only person in a room that isn't a teacher you really don't have much to contribute!

I was debating about going, but Michael told me to go - that I needed to get out. He was right! So, he stayed home with Miss Emma tonight while I played. It really was a lot of fun and this was a fun group of ladies - all very friendly! I told Kim if they needed a fill-in in the in future to please give me a call. I don't know if I have that many female friends (you need 12), but it would be fun to host a Bunco party! There are a lot of spins you could put on it, too! I had only played once before...but it was like 8 or 9 years ago when I was in college.

I took my phone with me and told Michael to call if he needed me - I was just next door so I could get over here quickly. My phone never rang - I even sent him a text message to see if everything was alright and didn't hear back from him. They did fine without me. She had a bottle and was asleep when I came home. Of course, she woke up shortly after I got her - so I fed her again, we talked a while, rocked, and she is back in bed now. She is going to bed awake now and, though I do have to go in a couple times and reassure her before she stays asleep for the night, she is doing really well!

I hear her calling again...

I should be used to the lack of sleep by now...

Miss Emma has decided to spend two hours up in the middle of the night the past two nights...last night she was up from 4:00 to 6:00 and tonight she was up from 3:00 to 5:00. By the time she was sound asleep again tonight, though I was wide awake. I am fighting a cold (Michael gave me his) and between that and being up with her a couple hours I just couldn't get relaxed enough to fall back to sleep. I am sure about 10:00 this morning or so it'll hit me and I'll pass out on the couch! I actually should try to stay awake and get used to this b/c I have to go back to work on Monday - I won't have the opportunity to steal any naps at all during the day.

I don't know why she was so wide awake. Usually if she does wake up in the middle of night it's b/c she is wet or hungry and either I change her or feed her and then she goes right back to sleep. The last two nights, though she's woke up hungry, I'll feed her, and then she is wide awake!! I hope this doesn't become habit! Not now that I am going back to work!

Emma is two months old...

and had her first round of shots today. I was so afraid it was going to be horrible. She had to get three shots and the nurse was super quick. It was over in about five seconds. She was asleep just before she had to get her shots so she was pretty relaxed. She only cried for a moment. I actually cried more than she did!!

Her doctor said she is perfect, which I knew! Hee hee! She weighs 12 pounds and 12 ounces and she measured 24 1/2 inches. She's gained five pounds and grown three and a half inches since she was born!! Her doctor said she is in the 90th percentile. My baby girl is growing so fast!

She and her daddy are both sleeping now...he's home sick today. We went to a superbowl party at his brother's house last night. He was outside the whole time and got a sore throat. When he woke up to go to work it was even worse - he's been complaining about his ear, too. I hope he doesn't get an earache as well. He did go with us to the doctor and to Target and I guess it wiped them both out!! Michael likes onion soup so I am going to make some for him this evening - soup is always good when you're sick.

I miss my baby girl...

in the header image that is...

I thought I would play with a few of the new themes for WP, but this one doesn't have a customizable header image so my baby girl's banner is no longer. I will probably revert back to the other theme just so I can see her picture on there.

This is a pretty cool looking theme, though - I like the brown and green together and I like the flowers as well.  One of these days I am going back to and use the downloaded version of WP, but today I just don't have the time to deal with all that. So, in the meantime this version fulfills all my blog needs. I need to make a new banner image anyway. Emma has grown and changed so much since I created the other banner image. She is growing too, too fast!!!

Two Birthdays Today

Today is my daddy's birthday and it is also Michael's little brother Christopher's birthday!! Happy Birthday to you both!!! I love you daddy!!!!

The Date is Set

J. K. Rowling has announced the date of her next book - July 21st. You can preorder the book and that's what I have done with the others...I need to go ahead and order this one as well!!!

Elaine sent me this link about Daniel Radcliffe - it appears he is branching out as an actor and showing it all! There are a lot of people opposing it, but honestly he is an actor - he isn't Harry Potter! Parents don't have to take their children to see this - just like they wouldn't take their children to an R rated moving starring an actor their child loved in a Disney film. Actors play different roles everyone!!! And he is an actor - I think it's good that he is moving on to other roles so he isn't "stuck" always being Harry!

Anyway, though - I am anxious to read "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows"! Only a few more months!
