What do you think? <div

Reese & Me

Okay, you tell me! Five years ago when I started here my boss at the time said I looked like her. Definitely not the nose, but maybe the chin? Since then I have had several people make that comment - I won't be vain and think everyone thinks she is pretty, but I will take it as a compliment b/c personally I think she's pretty.

Then last night at class a girl told me and another overheard and said, "I was just about to say that..." and now this afternoon another coworker said they were talking about it yesterday and that he pasted my profile picture next to one of her to see - so I thought I would do the same.

I found three of her brunette and had to throw in one of me in a blonde wig (not flattering on me) just to see the comparison! So...what do you think?

I have to add that I had a very hard time finding pictures of me...I'm always taking them so I am never in them!

Office Palm <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mishmish/93677986/"

Office Palm

OKay...maybe I'm not good with ivy, but we actually hire a maintenance company to take care of our office plants - so what's the deal with this palm!?!?

I wanted to pull off all those dead leaves, but was told maybe I shouldn't since we pay this maintenance company to take care of it...umm, I don't think they deserve their paycheck this month! Poor palm - it looks worse than my Ivy! It's like an infection that's spreading b/c at first it was just one or two leaves on the bottom and we thought they would fall off and it would be fine, but it's slowing creeping up the entire tree now.

What a nice let down.

We've all sent out emails that have come back as undeliverable before, but today I got a very polite one:
Hi. This is the qmail-send program at mail.transzap.com.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

I love that last part, "Sorry it didn't work out." It sounds like a break-up line.

Lunch is yummy!!!

I bought something new for lunch & am finally trying it out today. It's thesesame teriyaki noodle bowl from Simply Asia. I was a little scared, b/c I tried another kind before and didn't like it all. These are much better & I think I will have to buy some more! The only thing that irks me is that they consider one bowl two servings and I'm sorry, but there isn't enough there to make it last two meals. It only has four grams of fat, but it has 396 calories (that's total, not just one serving). I guess b/c of the teriyaki sauce - I think it has a lot of sugar in it. I will have to try some of their other products, too!

I also picked up two of the new soups from Campbells - the tomato & basil and the portabello mushroom...two of my absolute favorite soups. I haven't tried them yet, though. I've actually asked our chefs downstairs for their tomato soup recipe b/c it's yummy. I am going to ask for the mushroom recipe as well b/c it's wonderful! I'm a big soup fan!

Michael and I got a lesson in Peanut Butter tonight!

We went to HEB tonight to get groceries and I wanted to get some PB (Michael doesn't like it) and while I was deciding on which Peanut Butter I wanted I picked up a jar of creamy peanut butter. After a second or two of holding it this lady took it out of my hand and said, "Oh no, this will clog your arteries..." and then she picked up a jar of all natural peanut butter. She then procedded to tell me all about what hydrogenated products will do to me and how the natural was so much better! She was fabulous...I couldn't help but grin the entire time we were talking...or rather the entire time she was talking! She then told me how she was married to a vegan and on the next aisle introduced him to us by saying, "Oh honey, I just stopped them from buying hydrogenated oils!!" It was hysterical.

Needless to say I did buy the natural pb and let me compare the ingredients of each for you.
Regular Peanut Butter: Roasted Peanuts, Sugar, Partially Hydrogenated Vegetable Oils (Cottonseed & Rapeseed), and Salt.

Natural Peanut Butter: Dry Roasted Peanut Butter

Hmmm...well, it does sound lots better for me. So tonight I decided to have a PB fold-over. Of course the natural PB has all that peanut oil on top of it and I had to mix it up a bit. She had also told me that the only reason that the oil bothered me was b/c I grew up with the Hydrogenated version with no oil - that the oil had been removed from the peanuts to be sold separately and "axle grease" was used to replace it to make the PB last longer on the shelf so corporate America could make more money by selling the two products.

I had so much information thrown at me I can't even really remember it all!! Then before she left she gave me a couple of her cards (her husband's actually) and told me that if I ever wanted to call her and ask her any questions (about nutrition and health I presume) to feel free. She was really great to talk to actually. If I ran into her again I wouldn't mind sitting down and talking to her a bit longer. She also told me that her husband was a jeweler and one of the best and cheapest around here and that if I ever wanted to bring my rings in to get cleaned or have my diamonds checked (or to buy some I'm sure) to give him a call!!

It was really an interesting shopping experience! After that, if we picked up something bad for us (like chips) we looked around to see if she could see us!!! Ha Ha! I did enjoy the foldover, though!

Another Company Toy <a

Another Company Toy

This little guy was folded up inside a tin this morning sitting on my desk (another toy from HR)...we're migrating to SAP this year, hence the logo!

Update: We received an email this morning from our change management group in reference to the new toy & flyer we received this morning stating that: "The Jersey Joe bendable magnet you received with the flyer is symbolic of the flexibility required for the successful implementation of SAP" Yeah - that's b/c it's going to change our whole world. Requiring flexibility is an understatement!

Vanity <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mishmish/91757569/" title="photo

Good morning...

I haven't done a PhotoFriday in a long time...so I thought this morning I would take a picture of myself to submit for today's challenge.

In the past I have used this picture or this picture for any vanity shots - mostly for profiles, though.

We had another walk last night.

My professor's husband past away Tuesday night. This is the same one that had the heart attack the first week of class. Apparently he's been sick a long time. He had cancer and has had quite a few heart attacks it turns out. It's very sad. She is actually supposed to be back next week, though. I couldn't believe that, but I guess different people handle their grief in different ways. The course isn't going to be dropped, but maybe she'll get someone else to either step in for a while or take over the class completely.

It's just really sad. She's pretty young, too...in her mid to late 40's I would think, which is young to be a widow. He was about 20 years older than her, though and like I said, they've been battling illness for a while.

So, I guess I'll just wait and see next week what happens.

Okay...still working on buttons.

So, better dashed or solid??

I was hoping they would look like they had been cut out of the sidebar & I don't think the dashed line accomplishes that.

Company Toy <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mishmish/91047361/"

Company Toy

Our company launched a new campaign promoting a site dedicated our advantages. It really isn't anything new, they just moved where all the information was before. So, about five minutes ago someone delivered a package from HR w/ a flyer (add'l to the email we all got) and this toy. The sand goes through and one side says the name of the campaign and the other says "Explore the value..."
Another toy to sit on my desk!

Be patient...I am playing with my buttons,

so things may be going back and forth around here for a little bit!

Well, I am not really happy with the buttons as they are, but just do not have the time to spend on it today any more...so, they will have to do for now.

I made the Chancellor's List!

Yay me! As an undergraduate I had made the Dean's List. I didn't realize that there even was a Chancellor's List - apparently it is just for graduate students. I got the letter yesterday, but didn't open it until yesterday evening just before going to class. WooHoo!

Speaking of class: I got to campus early b/c I had a lot of reading to do & wanted to find a quiet spot to read for a while. I had about an hour before class so I just went ahead to the classroom. I knew no one would be there yet. I was afraid I would only get about 30 - 40 minutes in before people started showing up, but at 10 minutes till class I was still alone in the room. I went outside to make sure I was in the correct classroom & that a note of some sort hadn't been posted on the door without me realizing it. I decided to go downstairs and check the website again for the class schedules. I had a printed on in my hand telling me that I was in the correct classroom, though. So...I got onto the site for the classroom assignments and yep our room had been changed. It is now on the first floor and when I walked in it was almost full already. Man...and I had first pick in the other room, now I'm stuck sitting on the right side - I don't know why, but I like to sit on the left side of the room, near an aisle, about the 3rd row back (sounds anal, I know...)!! Oh well, at least I made it in before our professor did.

He, btw, is Hispanic w/ a very thick accent that he doesn't plan on working on (he said so) and that he won't be offended at all if we ask him to repeat something b/c we can't understand him. Sound familiar?? He is also left handed and has horrible writing (his words) so on the same note, he said if we can't read something he wrote he won't be offended if we let him know. We were spoiled last semester b/c our professor didn't like to stay late...so instead of taking breaks we just worked through and always go out a little early. Not this semester, though. Both professors are going to be keeping us there until very close to 9:00 every night.

Office Ivy <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mishmish/90387462/"

Office Ivy

My Ivy seems to be thriving. It has a new home (nice pot instead of the vase) with new dirt and even some roomies to keep it company. Hopefully it will do well!!!

I need some help.

Our neighbor (that shares the back fence) had been calling a while back complaining about the dogs barking. She hasn't called since before the holidays so I thought that everything was fine now. Apparently not.

She called me today after lunch to let me know that our dogs disturbed her luncheon this afternoon with their barking and that her friends kept asking why she put up with it and how could she stand to listen to it all the time - which it isn't all the time either. She even tells me that they have their good days and they have their bad days - maybe I need to put a voice activated recorder in the back yard.

I told her that everytime she's called me I've asked my other neighbors (the ones living on either side of us) and that they said they have never had a problem with our dogs; that they don't bother them...but according to her, she and everyone on her side of the fence (and even those across the street from her - two rows away from me) are having problems with our dogs and the dogs belonging to our next door neighbors. I also said when I am home on my Fridays off & on weekends I never hear them bark too much. They bark like most other dogs bark - at least that's how it seems to me. Or maybe I'm just more tolerant of dogs barking b/c I've always had dogs. Some people just cannot tolerate noise on any level.

So...I don't know what to do.

I have a dog run in the back for them and I guess we'll start locking them in there again, though I don't think I should have to do that. The other two options I really wouldn't be happy with either. One is a barking collar and the other is to lock them up in their kennels all day while we're at work. Michael used to keep them in their kennels during the day when he lived in the apartment - I guess they would be used to that, but what if they get sick or something...and I wouldn't want to "hold it" all day long so I am sure, even if they can, that can't be good for them either. What happens if we can't go straight home after work? Then how long would they be in there? The barking collar would work, but they can be pricey, too and I always wonder how bad it really hurts them. And to be honest, I WANT the dogs to bark if someone is near or in our backyard. I like that they are aware when someone is around and let me know. I don't want to use a barking collar b/c then they might not bark when they should bark - like when I'm home alone & Michael is away at the deer lease and someone is trying to break into our back door or something!!!!!!

She also told me today that her neighbor's mother, who is terminally ill with cancer, has a hard time w/ the dogs b/c they bark and keep her up and that she was calling partially on their behalf as well b/c it wasn't fair to me not to know and to think that everything was A-OK when it really wasn't b/c I was a nice person and that I was willing to work with them, but maybe just didn't know what to do (whew - that's a long sentence)!! BUT...she did say they weren't barking at that moment - while we were on the phone.

She said she doesn't want to involve the HomeOwners Association, which honestly I don't know what they can do about it. I'm not breaking any rules by having dogs that bark. They aren't violating a noise ordinance b/c they don't bark after 11:00 (they are quiet at night) and they haven't attacked any one so they aren't a danger.

So...what do I do? Any suggestions? .

Oh...and one more thing. My next door neighbor is home on maternity leave & I just called her to see if she heard my dogs barking today. She said no, not at all. That earlier this morning she had let her little dog out & that he got them riled up, but that after she brought him back in she never heard anything else. She said maybe a bark every now and then, but nothing that would be disturbing to her or her new born baby. She said, "Hanna, I have a new born, believe me if your dogs were keeping us up I would let you know," b/c they nap during the day - obviously!

When I hung up with her I called this lady back to verify exactly when her luncheon was, but I got her answering machine unfortunately.

This weekend was so busy...

Since I was off on Friday my mother came over to check out the new paint job & go shopping. We found some great sales (WooHoo) so I got some new clothes & some window treatments for the dining room & the windows on either side of our front door. Mother is going to do some alterations to all of them, so after I get them up I'll take pictures to post...and share our paint job, too! Later that evening we all went out to dinner and after mother went home we went bowling with Christopher, Steven, & Jamie. We also had birthdays to celebrate this weekend. Michael's maternal grandparents share a birthday so we visited them and had cake - then went out to dinner. Saturday night we went to see Fun w/ Dick & Jane - it was alright. Not quite as side-splitting as I had expected, but still a good movie.

I also got to spend some time with Elaine this weekend. We met up at Empire Cafe and sat and talked for about three hours before deciding to get some bubble tea - also pictured in the previous post! Sunday evening Jamie & I vegged on her couch while the boys played poker in the garage & watched the football game(s).

We were late getting home last night and I can tell this morning I didn't get enough sleep this weekend b/c I'm dragging. Maybe another cup of coffee or two is in order!

My bubble tea is empty, but I'm happy that I've been able to spend the afternoon with Elaine. We started at Empire Cafe and are finishing up with bubble tea.

My new indoor water feature. I haven't found just the one that I want for the garden, but I love this one for the living room. The sound is perfect!

Finally...my Friday off is here!

You can tell from the lack of posts this week that it's been busy! I've actually started several posts, but weren't able to finish them.

Mother is coming over today to see my redecoration (one of the posts I didn't finish) in our dining room. We painted the dining room (first non-white wall in our home) and now I want to get some window treatments. When it's all completed I'll post some before and after pictures. So, today she and I are going to shop for curtains and whatever else we feel compelled to shop for.

Class this week was good (management 566). Our professor is a stickler for rules...very type A personality...so we stayed until almost 9:00. As opposed to last semester our professor liked to get out as early as possible. I think I am really going to enjoy this class, though. My other class (economics) still hasn't met, though. Last week would have been the first class, but it was a holiday. I am anxious to see how it goes.

Well, molther is going to be here in a little while and I still need to get in the shower...

Monday, January 16, 2006

Sigh...it today almost over?

Thankfully yes...I have about fifteen minutes before I leave for the evening. It's been a sleepy day today for some reason. I had a hard time getting up and never really woke up at all. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better, more energetic day & I'll get more accomplished!

It's a miracle...no, not really! My coworker gave me some cuttings from the ivy in her office in the hopes that my ivy would get the idea!!!

Big Announcement!!

My sister just told me that my nephew got engaged over the weekend!!! They have been dating for just about three years so we're all very excited!!! She is very sweet and we all like her very much!

Friday, January 13, 2006

Oh, it's time for a nap now.

We went out for sushi during lunch today & I'm stuffed. It's amazing how a little rice & fish can fill you up so much!!! It was good, though! Last night was the same thing. We met my parents, sister, and her husband for dinner at Pappas. Daddy & I had raw oysters, we all had salad, and I had a small bowl of seafood gumbo & I left feeling like I had cleaned out their kitchen! I though fish was supposed to be lite!!!! Come to think of it, I think tonight at the BBQ Cookoff they are having fish as well...the really heavy stuff (ribs, brisket, sausage, etc.) is going to be Saturday night, but I think we are only going tonight.

Oh well...it was delicious nonetheless!

It's so pretty outside today & quiet in here! These are the best days to work...Fridays, b/c half the people are on their own Friday off. Good parking, not a lot of phone calls or emails!! I usually get the most work done on days like this. Speaking of, I'd better get back to it before the day is over!

Office Ivy

I must be the only person capable of killing ivy! Our yard is full of beautiful, thriving plants, but when it comes to ivy it all dies! This one has been surviving in my office in water. It has nice, healthy roots, but no leaves!!!

Class was pretty easy tonight...

especially considering we didn't have class. Another teacher came in to go over the syllabus with us and then we all left. Apparently our professor had a family emergency. I think her husband had a heart attack. According to the syllabus we won't have any tests in this class, but I think she makes up for it in projects and weekly assignments. We're going to have a lot of work to do.

I'm beginning to rack up a lot of blogs!

Forever I just had one blog that lived at MishMish77.Blogspot.Com. Then I got MishMish.Org and moved & forever that was my only blog. Then I started my weight loss blog at MishMish.org/Jeans. Then I created Our Wedding Site (which isn't really a blog, but I created it using my publisher so it's maintained like a blog).

Then I decided I wanted to move to WP, so I set up this site to play with it...when I realized how limited it was I decided to set up PixelFrame.Org and use the full version of WP to see how much I really liked it to know if I really wanted to spend the time to move from pMachine. Well, that created problems b/c it isn't a simple move and I am scared about losing Jeans & Our Wedding site b/c WP doesn't really support multiple blogs...

So I think I have decided just to stay where I am at MishMish.Org and continue to use pMachine - though maybe I'll upgrade to Expression Engine sometime!

Anyway...that's it. I just wanted to update on this site since I took the time to set it up in the first place!!!

I start classes tonight.

I'm ready & I'm not. I think I'm just anxious right now. Once we get going it won't be so bad & I am sure the semester will go by fast since I'll be taking two classes.

This is the first five day work week for me in a while & it really feels like an eternity until the weekend. Maybe part of that is the anticipation of school tonight - I still have a long night ahead of me so that makes for a longer week!!!

Tomorrow night we're supposed to have dinner w/ my parents & then on Friday we're going to the BBQ CookOff at the Houston Farm & Ranch Club. I've been to this every year since I met Michael. My first one was about one week after we met actually - he hardly said one word to me he was so shy. Ha ha! I thought, "I came all the way out here for him & he isn't even going to talk to me..." Eventually, he got brave enough to walk around & talk to me, though!

So far Saturday is free & I may have to spend it reading depending on how much work we do tonight in class. I have three books for both classes this semester so I foresee a lot of weekend reading actually. I can do homework during the week, but trying to sit up and just read about Economics & Management after working all day is just too good a sleeping agent!

It was a nice day out today...

I really didn't want to work out today...I was fighting it tooth & nail, but I know that I need to & I feel better for doing it.

My friend has been talking to me about going walking with her during lunch & we've made plans to do so, but they kept getting moved around. Neither of us wanted to work out today, but neither of us wanted to let the other down even more...so we walked!!! I feel great now, but when she called to say what time we were to meet I was close to saying, "Wouldn't you rather go out for Thai???" I'm glad I didn't b/c now knowing she didn't want to walk she might have accepted!! Ha ha!

See how important workout buddies are when you're trying to get back into the groove of things? Now if we can just keep our future workout dates!!!

Just as an update to yesterday's post

regarding the fact that I haven't worked out in so long...I'm meeting my friend at lunch today to go work out!! SO THERE!!!

I am so excited!

My friends have been going through the adoption process for a while and this morning I saw pictures of their new baby boy!!! It will still be about six months before everything is final, but I am just thrilled for them. They are going to make such great parents!!!

My Sunglasses <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mishmish/84540859/"

My Sunglasses

Over a month ago I lost these sunglasses & b/c my eyes are so sensitive immediately bought another pair. Yesterday I found my old glasses in my gym bag in my office...just goes to show how long it's been since I worked out.

btw...I like my new pair better anyway. They're Kenneth Cole & very cooool!

Jenny Craig has a blog...

well, actually Kirstie Alley has a blog on the Jenny Craig site. Her latest Jenny Craig commercial just came on (followed by one for Nutrisystem) that's what led me to check out the site and found her blog.

I am not planning on joining any weight loss program, but am always interested in different methods that are used. I might check in every once in a while and see what she has to say; though honestly, I'm skeptical about it 1)b/c I am curious if it's really her (as I always am about celebrity blogs) & 2) b/c she is a paid sponsor - of course, everything she says is bias to begin with.

Most importantly, though I need to be more active here on my own weight loss blog. Since I set my nutritional goals again I've been following 2 out of the 3 really well. I haven't been drinking enough water and I can always tell such a difference when I do. My body just feels better and to an extent cleansed when I drink enough water in my daily routines. When I don't drink enough my shoulders hurt more (from sitting at a computer all day I'm sure) and I feel so blah. You're never motivated for doing anything when you feel blah! So, that's the goal I need to get on track. I've been eating oranges every day and have been making sure I do not eat anything after 8:00. I need to work on getting my butt either back in the gym or on the bike or just walking/jogging in the neighborhood. When school starts (ack - next week) I am going to have to make sure whatever I do leaves me plenty of study time as well.

I bought a new PDA yesterday.

I've have a Handspring Visor Edge for about three years now...well, actually longer than that come to think of it. Maybe four years. Anyway...I've had it a while & a friend starting shopping for a new PDA for herself & while helping her look I decided I wanted a new one, too. I have to admit, I'm addicted to calendars and to the desire to be the most organized person! While I do have tons of calendars (electronic and otherwise) I am NOT the most organized person in the world. Maybe a new PDA will help me achieve that!!! Ha ha!

First I had to decide what I want. I didn't want a phone or even to have it web capable...I didn't need office docs, either. I wanted personal organization (calendars, address, memo, to do, etc), MP3, photos, games, books, etc...I found all this in the Palm Zire 31, which I guess isn't being made anymore b/c if you look on the Palm Products Site it isn't even listed today. I started to get the Z22, which is new and cheap, but it didn't play music. Otherwise I really liked it.

I am anxious to get this one in and start playing with it now, though!!!

I guess I shouldn't be surprised...

I've gained three pounds since the last time I weighed in, which was October 7th. I guess I should be thankful that after nearly three months of not working out or really watching what I eat that I only gained three pounds and not more!

I don't make New Year's Resolutions b/c I never keep them, but it is time to get back on the wagon that helped me lose the first 28 pounds so that I can lose the remaing 28 31 that I have to lose.

The three most important things I need to start doing again are from the nutritional goals I made when I started the Commit to Get Fit program:

1. Drink at least 6 8-oz glasses of water a day
2. East at least one serving of fruit a day
3. Adhere to an eating cut-off time of 8:00 pm

I really think these three goals were the most efficient to help me succeed in my weight loss. I felt I had more energy, I didn't feel "blobby" all the time, my appetite was much more supressed, & cravings weren't a problem for me. The rest, though not a piece of cake by any means, came much more easily after that!!

So, starting now I am going to work to meet those daily goals. With all the New Year's fitness resolutions that are being made right now I figure I'll have a lot of support b/c weight loss is "in your face" everywhere you turn & friends/coworkers are also starting to work on the same thing. It took me five months to lose the first 28 pounds - I don't think I am going to put a target date on it this time, though. If I just work on it daily, hopefully it will just become the way I live & that's going to help me in the long run I think!

I've been working on this post all day,

but haven't been able to spend more than a minute or two on it at a time!

I hope everyone had a great holiday season - both Christmas & New Year's! We sure did...we actually had our last get together this weekend and had a great time visiting w/ everyone! We didn't make it to midnight, though! We were up early Saturday morning after arriving in East Texas around 10:00 the night before and were running around all day - visiting, fishing, helping get things ready for everyone! We had hayrides, fireworks, and a bonfire! We all had a very good time!

Everyone is back in the office today. It's actually another short week for me, though b/c we were off yesterday and Friday is my normal Friday off - so I'm just here today, Wednesday, & Thursday! WooHoo! That's good, too b/c next week is Michael's b'day and I need to get things in order for that!

I don't really make New Year's resolutions b/c honestly I don't know anyone that keeps them, but here are the resolutions that I would make IF I were making them:
1. Get more organized (work & home)
2. Don't put things off so much (I'm a procrastinator)
3. Be better about my diet & fitness (obligatory - everyone says this)
4. Get more into photography projects (I didn't do too many in 2005 even after I got my new camera)

Otherwise I will be busy with school still in 2006. I'm taking two classes this semester and hopefully two over the summer and two more in the fall - that will be put over half-way through. My MBA program is 45 hours long, which is 15 classes. I only have two behind me now, but if I take these six as I am hoping this year that will mean after 2006 I'll only have 7 more classes to go!! Man, there is light at the end of the tunnel! Even if I only took one class over the summer I would still be about half way through. And when I get into the Accouting classes I'll really only be able to take one a semester anyway, so it will slow down then. Still, though getting at least five classes done this year would be wonderful!

I also found a new toy that I want for my camera & would make photography projects so much fun - the lensbabies make such interesting pictures! I can't remember how I got to it now - from a Flickr contact I think - nonetheless I like the effects. They have a nice tutorial and gallery to browse on the site, so I added it to my wishlist!!

I've kept things I want to buy in the future on my wish list, not really asking for it to be bought for me (you can set as "Don't buy for me..."), but so that I can have a complete list of things I want to look into buying in the future. Actually, you USED to could set them as "Don't buy for me" - that option is gone I just now realized. I hadn't really been paying attention to setting that b/c I really didn't think anyone looked at the wishlist at all, but over the holidays my sisters used it when they were Christmas shopping for me so I figure I need to keep it updated now. They have a feature now that allows you to make more than one list so maybe I'll keep one for a personal shopping list and another for an actual wish list for whoever to see!

Okay...with another short week that doesn't leave me much time this week so I better get to it!
