Announcements and updates!!!!

Well, I have joined another online community! I am still feeling my way around, but quickly learning the ropes! Elaine introduced me to DeviantART (as she has to several communities). I don't really know how to describe it b/c it involves many, MANY, different forms of art. There is photography and digital art - which are the areas I'll be submitting - and there is also poetry and paintings, drawings, illustrations, etc...all kinds. So, take a second to browse around, hit my gallery and let me know what you think so far!! I still have my complete album although it looks a little different now b/c I have modified the format somewhat! I'll just use DA for pictures that aren't just everyday shots!

Well, I didn't give a weekend recap, so let me try to go through that real quick!!! Friday night Michael and I went to the casino for a few hours. Michael did pretty well and I think I broke even. It was fun, though. Saturday Michael spent all day at the softball park for a tournament. He wasn't planning on playing, but I had to sit home all that morning waiting on the Dish Network techs to come so he decided to play. They had a really good lineup for this tournament, too - and ended up winning first place in their division. Michael was also named MVP!!! Congrats baby!!!! I waited at home until noon and then it ended up the guys didn't have the equipment they needed to install my dish, so it was a wasted morning for me! Afterwards I did some shopping and ran some errands and then went to my sister's house where everyone was for dinner! I hung out with them for a while before heading home!! The tournament ended up lasting until midnight - at least Michael's division did, I don't know if there were other games after that one! Sunday I spent the day at Michael's. I went over there around noon and we had lunch and then did some shopping...then we spent the rest of the evening at his place getting ready for a garage sale at his grandmother's on Saturday. Unpacking his storage boxes, pricing things, and repacking!!! This coming Friday we'll take it all to his grandmother's to set up for an early start on Saturday. I won't be able to be there that morning - I'll be sitting at home again waiting on the Dish Network guys. Ugh!!! My mother might come over that morning, though, to help me put out some plants...so at least I'll be able to get something done!!!

Last night Kenny and Elaine came over and we went out to dinner...we closed down the restaurant talking!!!! It was a lot of fun - thanks for coming out guys!!!! (I also got to play a little bit with Elaine's new toy - oh, I have camera envy!!!!

Albums

I have re-vamped my Photo Albums - so take a look and tell me what you think!!! They are now listed as Faery Albums in my links!!! (Thanks to )

Okay...I'm out of here now!! Having dinner with Kenny and Elaine tonight!!! This is the first time I have lured her out to my apartment since I moved so I want to be sure everything is clean first!!!! :)

SNAPDRAGON
Well, according to this, you're a snapdragon. If
these results are right, you are a fiercely
independent person and you don't care what
peoeple think. You have the potential to be
anything and everything, so long as you live up
to your goal of living every moment to the
fullest. Personally, I think that kicks ass.
Rock on.
oh yea, and dont tell the others, but you're my

4. If you could change your hair this minute, what would it look like? 0% Frizz - b/c it's curly I have to fight the frizz!!

5. Ever had a hair disaster? What happened? That one time I cut my hair short...I said I would never do that again!!

Hmph!!! Well, I really just wanted to sit in my office and be by myself anyway!!!

Email: Do you have any lunch plans?
Me: No, not really...what do you have in mind?
Email: (after a long delay) Sorry, looks like I have to...

Why ask someone to lunch to change plans two seconds later!!!

I really did bring my lunch today, but I am so easily persuaded when it comes to getting out of the office!!! As far as I'm concerned that is my time to get away from my desk...I hate doing errands during lunch b/c that feels like I'm still doing work...and when I bring my lunch I'm still stuck here at this desk - I guess I could eat it downstairs - so my preference is to go out somewhere. I have a good lunch today, but it could make a good dinner, too. Last night we grilled pork chops w/ this great marinade my sister told me how to make. It's equal parts of Olive Oil, Honey, and Mustard! Mmm Mmm, it was so good!!! Well, there was some leftover so I brought that...but if we just cooked some more veggies or something tonight I could add the leftovers and have dinner ready! Dunno what I'm gonna do!!

Michael and I came to a decision yesterday. In the past our weeks have followed a very regimented schedule...at least three days of the week anyway. Tuesday was softball, Wednesdays we went to my parents' for dinner and my sisters came over with their families, and Thursdays we had dinner at his parents' and watched his brothers play basketball. Ugh...that's three days in the middle of the week. I was beginning to feel like I was never at home - except to sleep or change clothes!!! I wanted to be able to spend time at home to cook, clean, rearrange, work on projects or just sit down and veg in front of a movie if I wanted to. I thought it was going to be a bigger deal to get out of, but Michael was VERY receptive to the idea. So, I think what we are going to do is just alternate weeks and go one week to see my parents and the next to see his...and eventually I'm hoping it won't even be that scheduled, but for now I'm thrilled!!! Tuesdays are still for softball, but that's fine. I don't have any problems with that at all!!! I like to watch them play!

So last night we went grocery shopping (something else we really didn't have time for) and rented a couple of movies. We watched one last night and tonight we're going to watch the other one. Michael really isn't that much of a movie buff...we've only been to the theater together twice...but he'll sit down every once in a while and watch one! When it comes to the television if Michael has the remote we're watching ESPN!!! It's a good thing that I like sports otherwise we would be fighting over the remote all the time!!!!

Well, it looks like I might be staying in for lunch today after all...they have some broccoli cheese soup downstairs that sounded really good...then I can save the lunch I brought to add to our dinner tonight!!!!

2. Books-on-tape or regular books? Regular Books
3. Paperback or hardcover? Paperback, but I'll buy the hardback of a series I plan to keep all of.
4. Fiction or non-fiction? Both
5. Sci-Fi/Fantasy or romance novels? Both

7. Subscribe to magazines or buy on newsstand? Newsstand

10. Here in the U.S., we have two hot best-sellers...former First Lady Hillary Clinton's memoirs, and the new Harry Potter book (coming out June 21). If you had to read one, which one...Hillary or Harry? Why? Harry!!! All the way - I am on a notification list for when he hits the shelves! If I read Hillary it will be b/c I borrowed. I don't think she needs anymore of my money!!!

Surfing from home again...

WooHoo!!! I now have internet at home once again, but the cable is gone! When I moved in the cable was hooked up - so, yeah I just let it go! I think if I hadn't ordered internet it would still be on!! Hee Hee...oh well. So now I have to order cable and have another morning wasted sitting around waiting on the tech to come back out to my house to get me set up and take another check from me!!!

Friday Five

Look at me with four posts already this morning...I thought I had work to do!!!!

1. What's one thing you've always wanted to do, but never have? I have to agree with Kathy on this one...I wish I knew a second language...preferably Egyptian, too, since that is my background and Spanish b/c it would be useful here in Houston!

2. When someone asks your opinion about a new haircut/outfit/etc, are you always honest? I'm honest, but never rude. If I don't like it, I stress that it is just MY opinion and what should really matter is how they feel about it.

3. Have you ever found out something about a friend and then wished you hadn't? What happened? Nothing really pops in my head on this question. I am sure if I really pondered on it then I could think of something, but if I did, it would probably be something I wish I hadn't remembered either!!

4. If you could live in any fictional world (from a book/movie/game/etc.) which would it be and why? I don't know...this is a hard one. I could say Hollywood b/c everyone you see there is beautiful, so that HAS to be fictional, b/c Lord knows not everyone looks that good all the time!!! But that also seems boring...maybe somewhere like NeverNeverLand...I always thought the Lost Boys looked like they had a good time!!

5. What's one talent/skill you don't have but always wanted? I wish I had a green thumb! I am not very good with plants...they don't seem to thrive around me!!! I am doing a lot better these days, though. I have four plants in my office, an ivy, a prayer plant, bamboo, and some mint, and they all seem to be doind pretty well!!! Maybe b/c I sit here with them everyday, though!!!

New Toy...

I bought this a while back and finally brought it to my office today. Yeah, it's a gadget, but I like it!!! I bought mine at Garden Ridge, but I couldn't find a link for it there. It's a good way to make sure that I get my recommended eight glasses of water every day! Just finish the bottle!!

I was showing it to a couple of girls in the office this morning and one of them sent me this shortly after!!! I thought it was pretty funny...although I told her, that wouldn't be my beer of choice!!! :)

Oh, btw...

HAPPY FRIDAY THE 13TH!!!

I'm Awake...Zzzz

Ugh, I didn't work out this morning so I got a little extra sleep, but I think it worked against me b/c I found it very, very hard to keep my eyes open and am still having that problem. I poured myself a big cup of hot coffee, though, and am trying to see if that will help. I really think it's this weather. Overcast skies are a trigger for my migraines and I have had a dull throb all week that is making it hard to concentrate on what I need to be doing...and making it hard to get a good night's sleep. Maybe I'll get to catch up on that over the weekend. For now, though, I have a lot of work to do before the weekend even gets here! After tomorrow, though, I'll have internet at home. I don't usually work from home, but lately things are really picking up around here and I have a feeling there is going to be some homework to do! We just made a major acquisition and it has created a lot of work for us - which is good...and bad!

Well, speaking of...I had better get to work now!!!

Not enough sleep...

Last night the plan was NOT to stay too late at my parents' house and then go home and chill an watch the game...it was Michael's plan. Then guess who wanted to stay and play dominoes with my brother...Michael. We played a few games, but I prefer 42 (another dominoe game) and Michael wanted to learn, so we started playing that and he was learning...it was 10:30 before we left!!!! I am so tired this morning. I woke up with an extreme headache. Breakfast and a srong cup of java later and it's still here. And on top of that, today is Bring Your Kids to Work Day. Usually I like this day b/c I love kids and we get to participate in a lot of the activities, too...but it's harder to enjoy with a terrible headache and a lot of work to do!!

Oh...and FYI, our IT has blocked ALL gaming sites now!!! When I was searching for a link for 42 I thought I would browse around and see if there was some place to play online - I found several BLOCKED SITES and all Yahoo!Games are now blocked as well! I can get into the site, but beyond the home page is blocked!!! Oh well, I prefer to get out of the office during lunch anyway!

Did you know...

...that UMPTEENTH is a real word in the dictionary!?!? I didn't...I wrote a word in Outlook and the spell check suggested UMPTEENTH to replace it!

Hmmm...very interesting!

AAAGGGHHH....

I might need a drink after today...or a good kick in the head!!

You have something that works...that works well, very well...that you have used and molded and perfected over months and months and is now a perfectly well oiled machine that can do no wrong...so what do they do??? THEY CHANGE THE WHOLE DAMN THING ON YOU!!!!

I am beyond irritated today! And you know, it wouldn't be so bad, but not only do I have to make this correction for current work, but also for all past work b/c I do a lot of retro entries each month...but since everything has the old upload template attached to it I have to re-do each and every one of them as I use them b/c the old one, which worked perfectly, won't work since THEY decided to make changes!!!!

I am leaving at 4:20 today...and It's a Good Thing!!!!

My weekend...

OKay...I did have a wonderful weekend, but before I get into that, I am going to vent about work for one paragraph!!!

I have stated before that I don't have my internet set up at the new apartment (and I still haven't done it yet) - so this morning I thought I would bring my camera into work and upload some pics from here! NOPE! WRONG! You have to be an administrator to intall anything on your computer. It was a hassle just to get my visor software on here and it still isn't syncing correctly (all but the date book is working). I don't know what they are going to do next!!!!! I feel like I am in kindergarten some times and have to walk every where in a straight line holding onto the person in front of me so that no one gets out of line!!!!

Okay, so that was my vent about work...now on to my wonderful weekend!!!

Friday we went to an Astros game with my niece (the pregnant one), her husband, my nephew and this new girl he is dating, and a friend of ours from back home! We had a really good time and it was great to see them b/c I don't get to spend much time with them anymore. We all live far apart and now that Hailey and Steve are having a baby they don't get out as much as they used to!

Saturday morning Michael had a softball tournament, but I didn't go out there until noon. They ended up not winning this one - I told them they had to experience what the other teams felt like every once in a while!!! They have been on a winning streak for three seasons straight!! So, they guys decided to go out to eat, but I opted out. Michael was disappointed that I left, but later when he found out why I left he understood!! I went out to mother's house b/c I had a picnic basket out there that I wanted to use. She wanted me to come over, too, b/c she had made a wall haning for me. (When I get it up I'll take a picture). I also got to see my grannie and brother and sister...and Hailey had made a trip out there, too! So, after I picked up the basket I started running errands to put together a nice picnic for us and bought a little something for Michael, too! I met him at his house around 5:30 and by 6:30 we were on our way to Galveston. They were having a sandcastle competition (that I had mentioned previously) - so we checked out all the entries. There are some pics, but some are dark. (sidenote: ya know, I'll get my internet turned on this week - this is ridiculous not being able to post any pictures) Afterwards we toured around town. Michael hadn't been to the island in a long time and was impressed at all they have added. After finding a spot on the beach where we could watch the volcano at Rainforest Cafe we laid out the blanket and sat down to eat. Then we sat there a while watching the water and other people on the beach before deciding to go walking. We picked up a bunch of shells and chased a sand crab around!!! We really had a great time.

Sunday we thought about going back down to the island to go crabbing, but we were being lazy! After a while his brother wanted him to play a game of football out in Katy, which was fine with me b/c they could drop me off at Katy Mills Mall to shop for a while. I really didn't find much that I couldn't live without, but it was nice to have some time to myself while the boys went to play!!! That afternoon we took a two hour nap before watching the game and grabbing a quick dinner!!

Well, that's the rap - I hope you had a wonderful weekend, too!!!

Is it Five O'Clock Yet???

This day is just dragging on and on...the week went by quickly, but now today the clocks seem to have all stopped!

Thursday, June 05, 2003

Friday Five

1. How many times have you truly been in love? Twice - still in love with the 2nd!!!

2. What was/is so great about the person you love(d) the most? That I can tell that he feels the same way about me without him saying anything. The comfort level has never been this high!!

3. What qualities should a significant other have? They should share your values, but be different enough to keep things interesting!

4. Have you ever broken someone's heart? Not on purpose.

5. If there was one thing you could teach people about love, what would it be? Hell, I'm still learning!!

Sun, Rain, Sand...

There appears to be a bit of dampness outside this afternoon! I was beginning to think that little storm we had was just a tease, but it does appear that we are going to get some more rain! Although I know we need the rain, I hope it isn't wet on Saturday b/c this sounds interesting!!!

I look like a lizard...last week while on vacation I suffered a pretty severe burn. YES, I did to use sunblock! Just not enough I guess or something. It was the first sun I have really received for the year and it hit me hard. My shoulders had water blisters on them and now they are peeling terribly! It is so awful - and it would have been a pretty tan, too!! Bye Bye tan I have been putting all kinds of burn therapy on it, too...and per the suggestion of a coworker, Cocoa Butter Cream! Michael has been saying I smell like Peanut Butter! I don't know what it reminds me of, but personally, I kinda like the way the cream smells! Everywhere else doesn't appear to be going to peel, but my shoulders are, that's for sure! It doesn't help any that my bra straps continually rub it during the day either!

Well, it is getting close to the end of the day and I need to finish up a few things so that I can get out of here!!

Prelude to a Graduation

Well, we made it to hump day!!!! And I got through close very easily!!!! I actually had 95% of it done before I even left on vacation, but when I came back that 5% still to be done was accompanied by things that had piled up in my absence! It wasn't too bad...going through emails and voice mails was what I was really dreading, but it turned out last week was rather uneventful around here, which is great b/c that meant I didn't have to play catch-up on any major issues!!

An interesting thing happened while I was at Christopher's (Michael's little brother) graduation last Sunday. I wasn't really planning on writing about it, but today I decided that I would. Now everyone knows and hates the fact that one or two people will get to an event early and save about ten-plus seats for family and friends - I do it, too. Though I hate being the one to save seats b/c there is always a group where everyone is there at the same time and they give you dirty looks for "cheating" and sending one or two scouts to save seats for the rest of your group. Ugh! Happens at the movies all the time!!! Sunday we had ten tickets (Jersey Village requires tickets to limit the number of people attending graduation). Four of us were there early with the graduate - Michael's parents, me, and Michael. So, Michael's parents sat at one end and he and I went ten seats down and sat to bookend our seats! After a while people started filling in and a group sat in front of us...I didn't realize it, but they had reached behind them and marked two of our seats. I figured most people would try to come down the aisle or at least ask if the seats were reserved, so when I heard them tell late comers they had two of those seats I was taken by surprise and had to tell them, "No, I'm sorry, but these seats are all saved." Needless to say they were rather annoyed and quite bitchy!!! "You should have said something to someone..." and then to one another, "People should say something - now what are we going to do..." Blah, Blah, Blah!! Okay, one minor incident - one major one to go!!!

Vacation Update

OKay...as promised, here is my update for last week!!! Friday and Saturday were spent working since I moved into my new apartment. Friday night my parents came over to help me out and we finished boxing up everything and then took two loads (one excursion-full and one jeep-full) to the new apartment! This was the first time my parents or Michael had seen the inside of the apartment! This early moved really helped a lot b/c on Saturday morning when the movers arrived there were only the big things left for them to move and by noon they were completely done...just about two hours worth!! Then the real tasks of unpacking began!! My parents came back over to help us out - though we had the majority of it done already! By eleven o'clock that night we had everything done, including another trip back to the old apartment to clean up and turn in my keys!! Michael and I even went and bought me two book shelves that I desperately needed (but didn't have room for in the old place!).

Sunday was the first of the three graduations we had to attend. It was for my nephew. After graduation we had a party back at my sister's house for him...there are pictures, but like I've said I haven't had time to get them up yet! I promise I will and will post links to them!!! We had a good time with everyone, but since we had an early start Monday morning we didn't stay too late...so what did we do? We went home and talked to Michael's brother and ended up going to the 11:30 showing of Bruce Almighty, so we didn't even get out of there until one o'clock in the morning!!! Needless to say, Monday we didn't get off as early as we wanted to! But we still made pretty good time and got into San Antonio around 12:30, plenty of time to spend the rest of the day on the riverwalk!! We went to Ripley's and the Wax Museum (always a must in San Antonio) and spent the rest of the evening on the riverwalk where we ended up seeing Mark Cuban and Steve Nash!! (No, we didn't get their autographs b/c we were on one of those river boats when we saw them...)

Tuesday we finished up at the riverwalk and went to the market for a while and then drove out to San Marcos to the outlet mall for a while. Didn't really find too much that I couldn't live without, though, but Michael found a few things! We were really exhausted, though, so we drove back to New Braunfels and ended up sleeping for a while and then having a picnic in front of the tv to watch Dallas and San Antonio play!!! Wednesday morning we were up early and were the first ones on the river!!! We floated for just under four hours, had a bite to eat in New Braunfels and were back on the road to Houston! By five o'clock we were on the beltway and almost home!! By 6:30 we were cooking hamburgers with Michael's brothers and fishing!!!!

Thursday we were able to get our cars taken care of. We spent all day at my parents b/c my car and Michael's car were both in the shop being serviced. Then that night his brothers played one another's teams in basketball so we went to watch them battle it out then called it a night b/c on Friday morning we were again on the road this time to Broaddus (where I grew up) to watch my niece graduate. This was the second of the three graduations! We fished Friday morning then that night went to the graduation and then to my brother's house to visit for a while. Saturday morning we got up to fish again, but I stayed in the house most of the time with my mother, sister, and niece b/c I was so burned I couldn't stand to be in the sun too long. Michael, though, fished all morning and caught 19 fish! He was thrilled!!! We drove back to Houston b/c their friends were throwing a party for his little brother's graduation (3rd graduation), which was Sunday - so we were at his mother's house that morning around 10:30 and went to graduation at one o'clock for his little brother - then back to his parents' house for their graduation party!

Whew!!! Lots of driving and lots of visiting during this past week, but I really did have a wonderful time and was so glad that the entire time wasn't spent out of Houston.

Well, there you have it...my week in 1,000 words or less!! And now it is back to work - have deadlines that won't go away just b/c I did!!!

This or That

I promise there IS an update coming. I started it yesterday, but there was a lot of work to do from last week. Today is close, though, so after four o'clock today I'll have more free time. I still don't have internet at the new apartment - that is also on my to do list so that I can take care of updates from home.

So, until the update comes, here is my This or That for this week:

1. Cats or dogs? Dogs
2. Butterflies or birds? Hmm, I guess butterflies, but I like birds, too!
3. Horses or cows? Horses
4. Turtles or snakes? Turtles
5. Frogs or grasshoppers? Frogs
6. Lions or tigers? Lions
7. Elephants or mice? Elephants
8. Porcupines or aardvarks? Porcupines
9. Unicorns or dragons? Dragons
10. Thought-provoking question of the week: You live in a rather dumpy apartment. A friend offers you a chance to be a roommate at a new place s/he is moving into, but they don't allow pets. You have a pet. Do you find your pet a new home and take the new place, or do you keep your pet and stay put? It would be hard to part with my dog. I did that once (he stays with my parents) and I am having a hard time taking him back. I feel guilty now b/c my father has become so attached to him and doesn't would miss him so much.

I'm Baaacckk!!!!

What a week! We had a great time, though, I don't think we stayed in the same place two nights in a row since Friday, May 23rd!!! I promise to write a more detailed update later, but today I have to get through all the work that piled up on my while I was gone!
