My Hometown:

Well, I grew up in a tiny, TINY, town so the answers to the following questions are going to be a little unusual - but here goes!!! Enjoy!
The best resturant, the one I have to eat at, at least once, while I'm in your town: Since I have moved away there is a catfish place that has moved into town. I have only ate there once, but it was really good. And hey, when you live in the Bass Fishing Capital you had better know how to fry fish! It is called Catfish Junction!

The best place to relax and take in some people watching. (please don't say the mall!): I don't know how much people watching you would be able to do, but you could do plenty of fish watching! The lake is definitely the best place to kick back when you're in Broaddus. Whether you're in a boat out in the middle of the lake or sitting on the bank you're definitely going to get that peaceful feeling!!

The best place to take kids to have some fun: I am going to have to stick with my answer to the previous question for this one as well. There aren't really many attractions without the lake.

The best nightclub or date place for my hubby and I to have some time alone: A date? IN Broaddus? That's not going to happen...the closest place to go out to a nightclub or something like that is going to be about and hour drive out of town.

The absolute best hotel to stay in while I'm there: There are a couple nice places to stay in Broaddus actually...there are cabins that are on the lake with beautiful views or one hotel just on the edge of town. I would definitely recommend on of the cabin accomodations, though!!!

Z - Zodiac Sign? Virgo

(found it here)

I have been having headaches all week and last night wasn't any better. Actually, it was a little worse. When I got home last night I separated the laundry, started getting things ready for dinner, and checked my email...that was all I got accomplished. After that I spent the rest of the night going in and out of sleep on the couch before finally deciding just to go to bed. Michael is starting to get to know my headaches. Last night he massaged my head for me for a while - that helps some. I took some medicine, half a pill actually, around 7 o'clock and after that I wasn't awake very much. Michael is so sweet, though...while I was asleep he did a couple more loads of laundry and cleaned up from dinner. Last time I had a really bad headache he did that, too. Chores while I was sleeping I mean. We were at his apartment and I was asleep for two hours and found out later he had been cleaning the entire time. Hmmm, might want to remember that for future reference!! I did notice, though, that he had put my hose into the washing maching along with other socks and such and that after that they went directly into the dryer! I don't want to complain b/c I am very grateful that he did the laundry - but I might have to keep my hose in their own separate hamper from now on so they don't all get ruined!!!

Every so often I go back through old emails that I have saved to browse...this afternoon I came across one with this image and I find it rather humorous so I thought I would share! Hope it at least makes you giggle!

Shaq v. Yao

Well, Shaq came back with a vengence last night. Michael and I cooked dinner last night for his brother and a couple of friends who came over to watch the game last night. It was a good game to the end, but in the end the Rockets lost. Oh well, we still had a good time.

I have a meeting this morning around 9:00 and I know it's going to be a difficult one. We're meeting with the audit resolution group and while their supervisor is a pretty nice guy, he won't let you talk. He doesn't understand a situation so this meeting is serving an educational purpose, but in order for it to go well he is going to have to turn over the floor to me and that is something that doesn't come very easily to him. I have learned, though, that the best thing to do is simply quiet down and let him get his spill out and eventually he realizes that either you aren't listening or that he is the only one talking and that he can't learn anything that way! That's the first obstacle to getting through this meeting. The second is another member of his group who can't seem to let go of the way things used to be. In the end I just have to say, "Yeah, that's how it was, but it isn't can either learn the new way and adjust or continue to have your issues, but that won't change the fact that the old way is dead."

My boss is going to be with me this morning so hopefully he will help moderate this meeting!

Way-Back Wednesday

Driving in this morning I was thinking about today's meme and for some reason I had it in my head that today was Wednesday. I just started Wednesday Questions, but instead of thinking of that, the term "Way-Back Wednesday" popped into my head, but that didn't sound right. But I knew that I had heard the term before. Racking my brain it finally came to me. When I was a freshman in college we used to go to this club called DV8 in Waco. It had several clubs, techno, pop, etc. Most clubs designate certain nights of the week for special groups/events. Sometimes it is Ladies' Night, some nights are Dollar Pitchers, Quarter Beers, etc. At DV8 Wednesdays were Way-Back Wednesday and they played 80's music all night. Granted it wasn't really waaay back b/c this was in 1995-96! Needless to say I don't think the club stuck with one theme for too long before they decided to do something else. I spoke with a friend in later years and found out the club eventually closed. Funny how you get to a thought and have to go back in time to find out how you ended up there!

Well, I have a training session to get ready for...back to reality and 2003!

The Arts Edition

1. Poetry or prose? Poetry
2. Funky modern art or the older, "classic" variety? Classic
3. Sculptures or paintings? Paintings
4. Theatre: exuberant musical or serious drama? Hmmm...this one is hard, I like them both.
5. Ballet or modern dance? Balley
6. Movies: major studio or indie? Again...both can be treasures, but I frequent major studio more.
7. Authors: Shakespeare or Dr. Seuss? Dr. Seuss...but I do like some of Will's work, too!
8. TV: PBS or A&E? A&E
9. Music: Beethoven or Beatles? Beatles...
10. Thought-provoking question of the week: You are a contributing member of your favorite art museum, and visit on a regular basis. They announce a new, temporary special exhibit by an artist surrounded by controversy...this person's work and/or political views offend you. Do you stop supporting the museum, or just stay away during the time the exhibit is there?
I wouldn't stop supporting the museum...I can't be arrogant enough to believe that they should ONLY have exhibits that I admire. I think I would just have to stay away during that time, but I might protest a bit to the museum about why I feel this artist isn't worthy of being exhibited.

What are you carrying around?

What are you carrying in your purse ladies? Yup, everything, from that lipstick you keep meaning to replace to how many pictures you have of your kids or family in your wallet. Keys, nail file? All credit cards, ID cards, and the bills and change too.

In my purse at the moment is my cell phone, my wallet, a pen, my mouth guard in its case, and a book of matches from Cabos! Oh...and two ticket stubs from Cirque du Soleil, Alegria!

Guys, you aren't off the hook. We know you shove tons of change in your pocket and play with it to annoy us! Tell us what you have in your wallet, how many keys are on your key chain? How much change do you have in that pocket? What else do you carry? Cell phone? Yup, everything please.

Very Cool...

I just opened the toothpick that I picked up from the cafeteria downstairs and found out they are mint flavored!! Yay!!!

Friday Five

1. If you had the chance to meet someone you've never met, from the past or present, who would it be? My father's daddy...he passed away before I was born.

2. If you had to live in a different century, past or future, which would it be? In the 70's... (I should read more carefully, that said century, not decade) I think I would want to live in the next century to come, definitely not one from the past.

3. If you had to move anywhere else on Earth, where would it be? Spain

4. If you had to be a fictional character, who would it be? Supergirl Jo, from Little Women Lois Lane!!

5. If you had to live with having someone else's face as your own for the rest of your life, whose would it be? Sandra Bullock - I like her eyes!

It's Friday!!!

Yay! I'm ready for another weekend...really I'm ready for another long weekend. Michael has one this weekend b/c he took off today to go out to the deer lease with a friend. So last night he kept rubbing it in my face that he wasn't going to work today, trying to make me jealous!

We had a good dinner last night. I made green bean casserole (one of my favorites) and cheese-filled tortellini with marinara! No dessert last night, though. Tonight we're going to meet up with everyone to play pool and the dinner plans seem to be leaning towards going to Niko Nikos and then drinks afterwards at Prive across the street. I haven't been there in a long time. I don't really know if Prive will be Micael's cup of tea, but he'll have a good time with everyone!

The rest of this weekend is going to be pretty laid back. We don't really have any definite plans for Saturday, but we might be going out with another couple for dinner and a movie. Maybe an early movie and dinner afterwards. I don't like going to the theater when it is packed with teenagers and Friday and Saturday nights they are always packed!! We're thinking about seeing How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days...I was under the impression it was a real chick-flick, but the other couple going with us saw it and they both loved it. Sean even said he wouldn't mind seeing it again! So, maybe we'll see that. Then Sunday we have plans to see Alegria with Elaine and Kenny and Robert! I am very excited about this. Last year was my first time to see it and it was so amazing! Michael has never been so I am also anxious to see his reaction to it! Then I'm sure we'll all go out to dinner after the show.

The weather looks nice outside again today, but not as nice as it has I think I'll take advantage of this weather before it disappears for the weekend and eat lunch outside today!

Busy at work...

Well, my work-based posting is going to have to dramatically decrease these days. We had reports run based on our internet usage, phone usage, and even for our access cards. Yeah, I'm at work now, but it's only 7:30 so I figure I can get a small post in this morning. Maybe later I'll get my submission up for Theme Thursday, too. I post from home a lot, too, but lately we have been making a bunch of CDs at night and so we spend most of the internet time downloading!!

Tuesday night's softball games were cancelled due to the weather so we ended up meeting some friends for crawfish! We ate fifteen pounds between three of us!!!!!!! There were four there, but one doesn't eat she ate chips and salsa! They messed up our order and we ended up with six extra pounds...for free! They were delicious, but near the end I didn't care if I never saw another crawfish. Of course, next week I'll be ready to go at it again! Last night we had a good southern dinner at Michael's parents' house. His mother cooked chicken and dumplings!! Mmmm...when you grow up in the south you grow up eating things like dumplings, turnip greens, peas, and cornbread!!! My Grannie's are still the best, though, even though last night was very good!

This is an excerpt from Monday's post, but I didn't have my pictures up I thought I would re-recap and insert links to pictures as needed!!!
Friday night we had a great dinner and then decided that we all would rather stay home and watch a movie at home instead of going out somewhere. Saturday lunch was cooked at home and some friends came over for lunch, which was delicious (compliments of Chef Eric)! After resting for a bit from our hearty lunch, Dennon and I decided to go shopping for a while...we hit a few stores and ran some errands and then came home to surf movies times for Bringing Down the House, which turned out to be pretty funny! Probably not quite as funny as I had built it up in my head, but still definitely not a waste of an evening by any means! By the time the movie was over we were all ready for bed...yeah, I think we're getting old or something! So we headed home and after a shower and a quick call to Michael, bed is exactly where I went! Sunday we planned to spend at the arboretum, as mentioned before! After a couple of hours (and many, many pictures) at the arboretum grabbed a quick lunch and then popped into a few shops to browse before going to the airport.

Weekend Update...

Well, another weekend has come and gone...and I have pictures, they just aren't uploaded yet. I'll get them done tonight...hopefully! We had a really good time, though. Friday night we had a great dinner and then decided that we all would rather stay home and watch a movie at home instead of going out somewhere. Saturday lunch was cooked at home and some friends came over for lunch, which was delicious (compliments of Chef Eric)! I arrived home around 5 o'clock and Michael was home waiting on me! It was good to see him...this was our first weekend apart and though we both survived, we both really missed one another. He had brought a lot of fish back from their trip so I cooked some of that for our dinner last night and his lunch today. Tonight we're going to my parents' for dinner. I haven't seen them since before they left for Vegas and am anxious to spend some time with them.

It was a good weekend, but as always, too short.

I just lost a long post and now I have to start all over again!!!

Bon Jovi @ Rodeo 2003 I have posted pictures from Bon Jovi - they are the last ones in the album. This was one of the best concerts I have been to this year. They said his attendance even beat George Strait's, which is really hard to believe. They even came back for an encore - actually, it was the only show I had seen where the band came back for an encore!!! We all had such crushes on him when we were in junior high...he's still awesome today!! My brother and sister and my niece went with it was a family night!!!! There were a couple of his new songs that I hadn't heard before, but the old ones brought back a lot of memories!

I am anxious to get to Dallas tomorrow...I'm taking a half day to get a good start!! We don't have any big plans. I haven't seen Dennon in a long time so I'm excited to see him. He won't get to meet Michael yet, though. They are going to be on the south side of Dallas and it's a guy's weekend so I am not going to bother calling him!! They'll meet him eventually! The only definite plans Dennon and I have are to go to the arboretum and I really want to get some good pictures so I hope the weather is nice whatever day we decide to go. The flowers are going to be beautiful!!

I have to take Chinook back to my parents' tomorrow, too, before I go to the airport. (Yes, I'm flying to Dalllas. I don't like to drive alone any distances that are further than a couple hours...I get too sleepy!!! Yeah dangerous, huh!?!?) It is going to be hard to drop him off, I think. I have really enjoyed having him stay here with me and I think he has enjoyed staying here, too! It's nice to walk in the door and have him jumping up and down with anticipation of seeing me!!!

Y'know, I am getting sleepy, so I think I am going to stop here. I doubt I'll be on until Sunday night when I get back into town, so until then...

Friday Five

1. Do you like talking on the phone? Why or why not? depends on my mood.

2. Who is the last person you talked to on the phone? Michael

3. About how many telephones do you have at home? None...I only use my cell!

4. Have you encountered anyone who has really bad phone manners? What happened? I hate it when people are through talking and just hang up without saying good bye. I always call them back just to say good bye - they get the point!

5. Would you rather pick up the phone and call someone or write them an e-mail or a letter? Why or why not? Email is fastest during the day, b/c then I can multi-task and keep us a conversation! I like to call family members that I don't get to see too often, though.

I usually post Theme Thursday on MyPhotoBlog, but Blogger is having issues so I decided to post my entry here.

Me and my family...

This is from my mother's b'day celebration this year. My Aunt Elaine and Uncle Charles, my parents, and in the chair with me is my Grannie. These people are all very special to me and I thought this picture was a good symbol of the heritage in my family.

One last rodeo concert...

Tonight is my last rodeo concert for 2003!!! We are going to see Bon Jovi...ah, we all had such a crush on him when we were in Junior High...and even HS!! My brother is now going with us, so I am pretty excited about that. He has never been to the rodeo...or to a concert now that I think about it! So, this should be a lot of fun for him. I'll have plenty of pictures to post!!

Last night we had a nice dinner. I had to skip going to softball b/c I went to meet my niece to get my ticket for tonight. She lives about an hour from me, so we met up downtown (about halfway between both of us. Michael's games were early last night I just decided to go home and start dinner. I had put out a roast so I needed the extra time anyway. Turned out pretty good! I love to cook, but not just for myself. I like to cook when there are other people to eat it!

I need to start getting my things ready for this weekend as well...I'm leaving on Friday for Dallas, but I have so much to do first, but since tonight is booked it looks like I'll be spending Thursday night trying to get it all done! Monday night I worked my butt off getting all the laundry done (and cleaning house) - that's one thing I won't have to worry about tomorrow night. Everything is clean, I just need to do some ironing and packing!

Hope ya have a great Hump Day!

9-11 Posters...

I haven't been reading comics all day...I promise! Along with the Calvin and Hobbes earlier there was this poster and I thought I would share it!

I love Calvin and Hobbes...

Is it our hormones???

I have never really been a "girlie" girl or had a lot of girl friends. I have a select few female friends that I am close to, but for the biggest part of my life most of my really close friends have been male. I listen to a lot of gossip, but don't really pass that much along (lesson I learned in the 6th grade), I like to do my hair and make-up, but if I am running late it is minimal and I will go to the grocery store with a pony-tail and no make-up. I like to wear nice clothes, but I HATE to shop. I have come into a lot of relationships with a "guy's mentality" about them...have a good time, if it works - Yay!, if it doesn't, then okay, it wasn't meant to be (it was obvious these people didn't have much of an impact on me).

Now I am in a serious relationship with someone I care very deeply about (yes, I'll admit it, I'm in love) and all of a sudden I'm acting like a female!!!! I guess what is really bringing this on is the fact that this coming weekend is going to be our first time apart from one another and we aren't even going to have that much time together during this week b/c there is STILL so much going on. Tonight Michael has a rosary to attend (his great-uncle passed away on Saturday), so he won't be back from that until late. I am taking advantage of that time, though, b/c we both have piles of laundry that needs to be clean for this weekend. So, while he is at the rosary, I'll be washing clothes. Tuesday, though we will be together, is softball. Luckily tomorrow's slots are early ones so we will get out of there at a decent hour. Wednesday I am going to see Bon Jovi at the rodeo (YES - I'm going again) with my two nieces (my age) and my sister, so I won't be home until late that night. Then on Thursday, Michael and the guys are going to see Pat Green and I won't see him that night at all b/c after the concert all the guys are staying together in order to get up at 4:00 AM the next morning and head out for the weekend. They are going camping and will be gone until Sunday. Since I knew he was going to be out of town this weekend I decided that would be a perfect opportunity to go to Dallas and spend some time with Dennon. I haven't seen his new house or met his new love-interest (I must give the thumbs up - we still value one another's opinion) and I haven't seen him in too long a time. So, at least I won't be sitting at home pining while Michael is out of town...and we are going to be in the same town. They were originally going towards Austin to camp, but the lake flooded so it is closed off to visitors. Instead, now they are going to a place a friend owns just south of Dallas - I'll be just North of Dallas. We won't see one another, but it does give me a certain ease knowing we'll at least be in the same vicinity!!! Yeah, I's just three days!!! (See, being female, ugh!)

Fae People

I added a site to my links collection today (hey, I don't have that much going on this afternoon)! Since I am going to be sticking with the faery theme, I entitled this page Fae People. Basically, it is a page to introduce my readers to the people that I talk about on a regular basis. I have only listed a few of the people so far, but as I write about people I'll add them as well, which probably means that my layout is going to change as well as the list grows. But for now, this shall be sufficient!

4. What four things do you need to do this weekend? Change the oil in my truck, wash my truck, go grocery shopping, and take out the trash!

Theme Thursday

I haven't been very good about keeping up with my Thursday submissions, but this one I liked!

Hot-Tubbing in the winter...

When I was a kid we had a pool and jacuzzi in our back yard. It was really awesome in the summer b/c we would go back and forth between the pool and the jacuzzi, but in the winter the pool was covered and off-limits, of course. The jacuzzi was still fair game, though. I can remember my father going out either in the early morning or late evening for 30 minutes or so to relax in the hot tub back then. I have been in the hot tub at my apartments late at night before, too. I haven't gone in the winter time, though, b/c unlike when I was at my parents' house at the apartment I would still have to brave the cold while soaking wet for a longer distance to get back into my apartment. Well, last night I got brave!!! After getting my hair cut, Michael and I met up with my parents and brother for dinner. After saying good-night to my parents, Michael thought a sit in the hot tub would be a good close to the evening. In the past few days we have been busy and running around until late at night...since this was an early night it was nice to have some time to sit and chill with one another. The hot tub was definitely relaxing! I could have fallen asleep. However, the run back inside wasn't as relaxing - it was COLD!!!!!! It was fun, though. We sat and talked for a long time as the lights in the apartments around us went off one by one when the tenants decided to call it a night!! Michael had to almost dare me into going b/c I thought it was too cold! I have to admit, though, I'm glad I don't back down from dares too often b/c I had one of the best nights sleep last night and am sure the hot tub time contributed to that!!!

It finally caught up with me...

Michael had softball games last night. He was out there from 6:00 until 11:30!!! Me? No way...I didn't go out there until 9:30, just before there first game. The boys went up there early to pick up some he ended up playing four games yesterday! But that gave me some time yesterday to run some errands and get a couple loads of laundry done before I had to go out there. Alice came by after her classes and we road out to the softball park together. It wasn't cold when we left my apartment, but after a couple hours the wind began to pick up and it got chilly - fast!

By the time we got home I was so sleepy. I fell asleep on the couch for a little while before going to bed and this morning even though I woke up with the alarm clock I went right back to sleep. I didn't make it in to the gym and barely made it here for our staff meeeting - I had to bring breakfast in this morning. My body just made a stand this morning and demanded that extra hour of sleep. I'm glad, though, I was beginning to hallucinate!!! :) j/k

Hopefully tonight won't be too long of a night, though. I am getting my hair cut after work (which is much overdue) and then we're meeting my parents and my brother for dinner - that shouldn't keep us out too late and I should get to bed at a reasonable hour. I was thinking back to when I first started working out in the mornings...back then I was in bed every night by 9:30!!!

All the clocks are set at 4:20...

I haven't posted a quiz in a while and I really liked Pulp Fiction, so...

What Pulp Fiction Character Are You?

You're sweet, but not naive - though you like to be babied like a child at times. You prefer to have a bad boy by your side, but sometimes have problems understanding why he has to run off to take care of business. You want to settle down, yet deep down inside, you are excited by the surprises life throws your way.

Take the What Pulp Fiction Character Are You? quiz.

Quiz thanks to Pamela!

There's gotta be a better way...

I think he just didn't want to sleep with HER anymore!

1. Soup or salad? Both...
2. Hot or cold sandwiches? Hmmm...depends on the weather. (Today it would be hot)
3. White or whole wheat bread (or rye, etc)? Wheat
4. Pack a lunch for work/school, or buy it? Buy it...I carry too much back and forth already!
5. If you eat chain, or mom & pop type place? Not fast food...
6. Tuna or chicken salad? I like them both, but usually end up eating tuna!
7. Cheese: Swiss or cheddar (or American, etc)? Manchego is my favorite, but I also like swiss, provolone, feta - most cheeses!
8. Mustard or mayo? Mustard
9. Sandwiches: wrap/pita pocket, or regular bread/roll? Pocket - wheat pocket!
10. Sweet stuff: cookie/cake or fresh fruit? Depends on the time of the month! Hey, you asked!

Sleep? What's that???

While the concert was amazing last night, I am exhausted this morning. I think the clock said 1:30 when I finally closed my eyes - but I did manage to get to the gym this morning. It was a light workout, but what were you doing at 6:30 this morning!?!? Michael and I met up with some of my friends at the concert. In the beginning there were some technical difficulties, but it didn't stop anything. At one point Tim's microphone went out, but the rodeo choir (the fans) kept the song going. It was actually a pretty cool sight...we could see him singing, but the sound that was heard was the voices of thousands of fans!! After a couple songs I think they had it worked out, though, b/c for the rest of the concert he sounded great! He would still occasionally stop singing to listen to the crowd sing. Can you imagine the feeling of standing in front of 50,000 plus people who are singing your song? The rush must be thrilling!

We have been taking the shuttle to and from the rodeo this year. It hasn't been bad at all...the crowds I mean. Last night I think we stood in line for about thirty minutes waiting to get on the bus to come home.

Okay, now I have to get to work. I have close at four o'clock this afternoon and a lot of work to get done between now and then.

Weekend Update...

Friday: After work Michael and I met up with friends to eat some crawfish and then played pool for a while before calling it a night...early. We were all pretty tired.

Saturday: Before I came to work where I am now I worked for a company in the Galleria Area...which is where Elaine and I met, as well as Melanie and Pamela. While three of us are still in Houston, Pamela's life has taken her out of H-Town and we don't get to see her very often. We really don't see Melanie much either since her life is so busy these days. So, it was nice that we all had the chance to have a little reunion at Elaine's house on Saturday afternoon. Thanks for the lasagna was good! Melanie and Pamela are also both pregnant now so there was lots of baby-talk going on, too!

Our original plan was to head out to Galveston again after lunch, but Michael and I were tired and the weather was kind of dreary so we decided to hang out at home for a while and then go out again for crawfish (hey, we really like mud-bugs!), but not long after we got home the phone rang and our friends were all telling us to come out that the weather wasn't bad down there. So, off we went. We didn't stay as long, though, b/c it was very crowded since it was the last weekend. Much more than last weekend.

Sunday: HAPPY B'DAY MOM!!! Sunday was my mother's b'day (and Texas Independence Day as well). Up to this point, Michael had not met my father so this was a good opportunity for the two of them to finally meet one another. We went to my parents' first and I introduced Daddy and Michael and gave mother her b'day present. Then we all went to my sister's house...the whole family was there. My sister made gumbo and the guys boiled crawfish (hey, I already told you we really liked them)! We were there until around 7:30 and then went back to my parents' for a while to visit with them and my grandmother and aunt and uncle.

Tonight: I got a phone call yesterday from a friend with a couple extra tickets to see Tim McGraw - so guess what!! We're going back to the rodeo again tonight! It makes for late nights, but the rodeo is only here once a year, right!?!?
