I have a blurker...

She is here everyday and she never comments. Yeah, I know it's a she b/c it is my mother!! Hi Mom!!

Every time I talk to her it comes out through conversation. I'll be telling her about something going on or something that I did and she'll come back with, "Yeah, I knew that..." Huh? "Oh, you read the blog again. Why don't you comment?" "I don't know who would be reading what I write!" Ahem...I don't know who all is reading what I write and I have my daily goings-on out there for the world to read!

I left early's appt. I'm fine, just a check-up. I checked out good! Afterwards I went to my parents' house since my doctor is on their side of town. (No, I won't change, b/c I want this lady to deliver my children...she is amazingly nice and doesn't believe that anyone should have to endure too much pain! YES!) My dad is home now and I haven't seen him in a while so it was a good chance to catch up with him and see how he was doing. He bought a DVD player last week and wasn't able to hook it up so I got it up and running from him and we all watched My Big Fat Greek Wedding - they laughed their butts off!!!!

Tonight Michael's little brother has a ball game. So we'll be at the gym tonight to watch him. Tomorrow is pool, but I think we're going to have a *date* with one another after that! There has been so much going on I am ready for a weekend with nothing planned so that we can just hang out. Saturday we are having dinner with my friends during the day and that night we're going back to Mardi Gras in Galveston with Michael's little brother and other friends. Sunday plans are tentative, but there are plans.

Won't You Be My Neighbor...

I am sure you have all heard, but in case you haven't Mr. Rogers passed away today. You know I never even knew his first name until I heard it this morning on NPR.

Did you say in George Strait!?!?

It's 4:00 yesterday and I get a call from Michael. "Do you wanna go see George tonight?" "What??? Really??? Yeah, let's go! I thought they were sold out!"

It was sold out, but as luck would have it, after finding out his softball game was called due to weather, Michael was offered a couple of tickets to last night's performance! I haven't seen him in concert since 1997 in Austin so I was thrilled to see him last night at the rodeo. We left Michael's house around 6 o'clock to catch the rodeo shuttle...the rain and traffic were pretty good deterrents to driving to Reliant Stadium. After getting on the road, though, I realized that I had left my camera in my jeep so I don't have any pictures from last night - which makes me pretty sad b/c it was our first concert together and it was a rather special one b/c it was the opening night for the Houston Rodeo and was opened by the very man who closed out the last rodeo at the Astrodome. That still wasn't enough to keep us from having a wonderful time!!! We made it in time to watch an hour and a half of the rodeo before the concert festivities began. The bronc riding was going on when we arrived, then we saw the steer wrestling, a bit of barrel racing (it was halted due to poor ground conditions), and finally the bull-riding. The Calf Scramble was one of the most entertaining along with the Chuck Wagon Races - Michael did a better job of choosing the winning wagons than I did!!

There were also a couple of surprise guests at the rodeo. Riding in the parade were Bum Phillips and George and Barbara and then the concert was opened by Lee Greenwood, who sang Proud to be an American. Then it was time for George himself!!!! The concert was awesome...lots of great songs! It ended just after 11 o'clock with George riding a horse around the stadium shaking hands with the fans and even thrilling one fan by throwing his hat out into the audience!

Quick morning fun...

I'm off to a meeting, but I wanted to leave you with this link to have some fun with before I go!!!

When I return I'll also give you an update on last night...I received a wonderful spur of the moment treat last night!!!! ;)

My sister sent me an email this morning and this was attached. I thought it was a nice picture and wanted to share it this morning.

From wet and cold to a beautiful weekend...

Friday night I thought the rain was going to bring down our plans, but that wasn't the case. We met up with friends right after work and headed down for the BBQ at the rodeo. It was cold and a bit drizzly, but we still had a great time. Some friends from high school were in town for the BBQ as well, so we managed to meet up for a little while and hang out with them, too. We called it an evening around 11:30 and then had the long drive back after walking in the rain back to our car. We had a party member who thought that was a good idea, so we just all humored her!!! It turned out to be a bit of an adventure, though, so there weren't really any complaints!!

Saturday the weather was beautiful. I kept a neighbor's little boy for a while on Saturday and then went to get ready for Mardi Gras. Our friends came over around 8:00 and we hit the road again! We had a lot of fun and caught a lot of beads (no, I didn't work for my beads!)!! Actually Michael caught most of my beads...he only wore one and put the rest around my neck!
Pictures of both Friday and Saturday are posted.

Sunday was pretty low-key. Michael was at his parents' for a while then played ball with friends. Afterwards we had dinner at mother's. One day this week we're going back to have dinner there again...he still hasn't met my father b/c we can't get our schedules together when daddy is home from work - but I think when he comes home this time he'll be home for a while so we should have plenty of opportunities!

I am so glad that Friday has arrived. This week was another short week for me since Michael and I took off Monday to have a long weekend. It was even shorter for him since he left early on Tuesday and didn't go in at all on Wednesday b/c he was sick. He is better now, but he really had me worried b/c he was running such a high temperature.

Tonight we're going to the BBQ Cook-Off for the rodeo. I have been to the rodeo and the concerts several times before, but I have never been to the BBQ so I am really looking forward to it. An added plus is that we won't have to worry about traffic or weather or parking b/c we won't be driving. Instead we'll be riding comfortably in a limo! The sponsor for the booths we have passes to is the father of a friend of ours. We're meeting him and his wife and then the four of us are going to ride down there together.

Tomorrow during the day I am going to be out towards my parents' house. I am going to keep a neighbor's little boy for a few hours during the day and then we're going to Mardi Gras Galveston with friends. One of these days I'll make it to New Orleans for Mardi Gras, but for now I'll settle our own Texas version. It's fun and I am sure a smaller crowd...although it gets pretty tight on the Strand. Last year I didn't even go to the Strand...we just watched the parades on the seawall.

We're going twice this year b/c next Saturday we're taking Michael's little brother, but only after a little reunion! Pamela is coming into town and she and Elaine and I are going to get together for a while. I haven't seen Nico since April. I have seen Pam's pictures, but that isn't the same as seeing him in person. I am sure he has changed so much...all grown up and about to be a big brother, too!!! But there are several babies all around me now... actually there are more pregnant women!! I have six friends who are pregnant right now!!!! Half of them are due between June and August! Must be in the water around here!

It is overcast again today...and much that I can't even see the freeway down below. I really hope this clears up at least a little bit before tonight. I don't think it is supposed to, though, but like I said - at least I don't have to worry about driving in it! I don't mind the bad weather (and actually kind of like to watch it), but I hate to drive in it. I told my boss a long time ago, if the weather is horrible in the mornings you can bet that I will most likely be late, b/c I drive slooooooooowww in bad weather!

Update: Melanie is going to be joining us as well!! Once upon a time we all worked together and now we're scattered so it is going to be great to see everyone!!

(my first) FRIDAY FIVE

1. What is your most prized material possession? My cameras...I love taking pictures and I always have at least one of them with me.

2. What item, that you currently own, have you had the longest? A pink stuffed elephant named Dumbo. My father bought it for me when I was one.

3. Are you a packrat? Not too extreme, but yeah, I keep a lot of crap that I could probably get rid of.

4. Do you prefer a spic-and-span clean house? Or is some clutter necessary to avoid the appearance of a museum? I like a spic and span house, but do I keep it that way? Hell no! There is clutter, which drives my boyfriend crazy!!!

5. Do the rooms in your house have a theme? Or is it a mixture of knick-knacks here and there? There are themes...the living room is safari type. Giraffes, Elephants, and Zebras...with a couple other little items thrown in. And I have recently decided that my bedroom is going to be in Faeries!

Following Pamela's lead, I thought I would also join the magnet exchange! I am not much for cup-towels, but I do like to cover the refrigerator in magnets - and this exchange is international so it should be interesting!!

I had a doctor's appointment today near my parents' house so they met me at the office to bring me some things I had delivered to their house. Mother also brought me a Valentine's gift, Milly (the Faery above)! I really love Faery art, mostly that of Froud, but Faeries in general - as should be obvious from my blog! I thought this was an awesome present and the Dezine Fairy Collection is at Hallmark, so I thought I would start with this one from mother and build my own little collection. Michael is going to help me put up a shelf for them so that I can display them in my apartment!

Long weekend...

Okay, here is an attempt to recap my weekend for you!!!

FRIDAY: Valentine's Day was so great! I think I mentioned in my last post some of the things my valentine gave me. So, that night when he came over I had his present waiting on him. Earlier in the day we had decided to go to Kinder to the casino. So we headed out around 8:30, stopping in Beaumont to have dinner. I had only been once before to one in Shreveport. This was much more fun! Before going to the casino we searched unsuccessfully for a place to stay...not one single vacancy in all of Kinder. (Do that many people really go to the casino on Valentine's Day!?!?) Needless to say we didn't worry about it! We gambled until five o'clock in the morning!!!! About that time my eyelids started to become very heavy so we decided to give it a break for a while and camp out and get some sleep. Yeah, you read that right...we camped! I drive a Jeep Cherokee so we folded the seats down and made a bed...we had brought a comforter, blanket, and pillows just in case we didn't find a hotel room. Yeah, I looked online ahead of time, but this was more adventurous!! I don't have enough adventures! So, we slept for about four and a half hours, got up and headed back into the casino/hotel to clean up and gamble some more. We ended up staying until 12:30 and decided it was time to head back to H-Town! It really was a blast!

SATURDAY: We got back into Houston around 4:30 and met up with Michael's brother (yeah, his name is Michael) to go buy speakers for his truck and later that night (after taking a much needed nap) we met up with friends at SRO, but Michael and I didn't last too long. The nap helped, but we were still very tired.

SUNDAY: Meeting the folks! Yeah, on Sunday Michael took me to his parents' house. He was going over to help his little brother install new speakers in his truck and both his parents were going to be home, so it turned out to be a good day to meet them. To be honest I was rather nervous to begin with, but that subsided shortly and we had a nice afternoon.

MONDAY: Long weekends are so nice! Friday on the way to Kinder I received a phone call from my mother telling me that my former sister-in-law (my brother's ex-wife) has passed away that evening. The funeral was Monday in my hometown so we got up early that morning and drove to east Texas. The kids were doing a lot better than I thought they would be. She had four children, but they all stay with my brother. Emotions were up and down all day. It was hard to see the kids like that. I really have to say that I am proud of the oldest girl of the four children and her step-mother. These two did all the planning and funeral arrangements. It takes a strong woman to take charge of the funeral of her husband's ex-wife...and a strong 17 year old to step up to these responsibilities as well. It all went smoothly, though, and the kids made it through the ordeal. They were 19, 17, 15, and 12 years old...and all really great kids. It was rather late when we got home Monday so today I am pretty exhausted. The entire weekend was go-go-go the whole time and it isn't stopping yet, b/c tonight we have softball games to keep us up till all hours!!!!

Teddy bears, balloons, roses, more roses, candies, cards, frames...these are a few of my favorite things...and a few of the things I received from my valentine!!

I found a new recipe (chicken tortilla soup) and decided to try it out on my friend. So after picking up Elaine at her house last night we went to the grocery store and stocked up on ingredients! I really like to grocery shop a lot more when there is someone with you! Thanks Elaine - it was good to see you last night!! I bought what I needed for dinner and Elaine picked up some groceries for her and Kenny for dinner. For once my list was pretty much followed! The dinner was really good, too. I have this thing for soup and chicken tortilla is my favorite! Tonight's plans aren't final yet...we haven't decided if we're going to brave the masses (won't be easy without reservations tonight) or stay in and cook a nice dinner. I am leaning towards the cooking at home option! I just don't think a dinner out with hundreds of other Houstonians is my idea of a nice Valentine's Day dinner! I'll letcha' know!

We're Moving!

Well, with the help of my good friend, is finally up and running!!!!!! So, please re-direct your links!! Thank you so much EJ for all your help! I am really going to enjoy pMachine I think! And how cool is it that was available!!

Life has been going great! I know I haven't kept up too much with my posts lately, but I have been pretty busy! My friend and I are spending more and more time together and work has also been picking up lately. We're having some organizational changes, which means people are leaving and new people are coming in from different departments - which means TRAINING TIMIE!!!! Not to mention, I am sure I'll be picking up some of that workload while I our new team member is learning the ropes. No complaints, though, my work is cyclical and if I have to have more work added to my desk, now is the time to do it!

Soon Now...

They can't bring my mood down...

I had a great evening last night - we went to the batting cages and then played basketball for about an hour. We cooked a good dinner and made delicious white chocolate/macadamia nut cookies. Today is one month from the day I met this special person in my life and this morning I had a voice mail just calling to wish me a good day! So, when I walk into my boss' office this morning and he and a coworker just seem to be trying to irritate me, I brush it off! No way they are going to get under my skin this morning!!!! I'm in too good of a mood! (Even though I am a bit sore from the batting cages - I don't think I have swung a bat since I was in the 3rd grade!!)

I'm still here...

I haven't been keeping up with my posts lately. My time has been pretty filled up recently. The weather this weekend proved to be pretty nasty, but we were still able to be out and about a bit! Friday night after pool we had dinner and called it a night relatively early. I think I was in bed around 10:30! My niece had called me earlier that day to go antique shopping with her, my sister (her mother) and my mother so I knew I would have to be up and out of the house pretty early. She lives in Pearland so it took me about 45 minutes to get to her house, which really isn't that bad I guess considering we're on opposite sides of the city from one another! My sister and mother were already there when I arrived and we were at our first store not long after 10:00. I didn't come across any major discoveries, not that I didn't find a lot of things I would have loved to take home with me. Mainly antique wardrobes! I found several that I really liked, but the thought of having to arrange to take them all the way back to The Woodlands wasn't that appealing. Besides when I get into my house I'll have more room - my apartment is a one bedroom. It would have taken up so much space. But I did manage to make a couple little discoveries - a lamp and some pewter animals. I'll post pictures later! Saturday night my friend came over and we rented a couple of movies - The New Guy and About a Boy. Both were pretty good flicks! Sunday was wet and nasty all day. We met my friend's brother at Best Buy b/c he was having a stereo put in then we all headed over to his apartment. The plan was to go to another friend's house to watch the NBA All-Star game, but b/c of the weather we just stayed in to watch it. Today the weather outside is perfect. 61 degrees, sun shining, and not a drop of rain! Would be a perfect day to be outside riding four-wheelers or something!

You're in the ARMY now...

so don't swipe federal property!!! I am embarrassed to say that this ROTC member is a student at SFA b/c that is my alumni. People, this shit belongs to the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT - why would you steal from them? And besides that, there are warnings everywhere that it could be toxic or contain toxic materials, so why risk it!?!?!?

1/4 tank of gas??? Time to pull over...

or you'll end up like me and find yourself on the freeway without any gas! happened. I'm driving along on 45 when all of a sudden I realize that I'm slowing down regardless of the fact that I am pushing the gas pedal further down towards the floor. After a ten second period of pure panic I noticed that I had enough room and time to maneuver the car to the far right lane and with a little luck (and a silent prayer) down the off-ramp, which I did and coasted right up to the pump a the Chevron station at the end of the ramp! While filling up I was afraid it might be something else as well, b/c normally when a car runs out of gas and is still in gear it will lock - or this is what I thought. My jeep didn't lock up, though, it continued to coast while still in gear. The thought came to me to put it into neutral, but I had momentum and was afraid if I did anything it would stop in the middle of the freeway. So, why did I let my jeep run this low on gas? Well, not to try to remove the big S-T-U-P-I-D sign that is plastered to my forehead, BUT in the past when my low-gas light has come on I have traveled 40+ miles with it lit up - BEFORE YOU START YELLING AT ME - this isn't something I EVER plan to do again! So, when my light came on this time I believed the same to still hold true - wrong!!! So, from now on, as soon as I hit quarter of a tank I am headed to the gas station. Do you know how scary it is to run out of gas on a major freeway!?!?! Well, and I hope you never do!

Welcome to pMachine!

This is an example weblog entry. We added it as a place-holder, so the page wouldn't be blank. You can delete it from within your control panel.

My friend...

I see this man sitting next to me...he has his hand on my knee or across my shoulders...and it is such a comfort just to be there. We're eating and talking with friends and he brushes my neck with his fingers as he puts an arm around me and I know what he is thinking. "I'm glad we met..." "I am, too..." "I'm comfortable with you..." "I feel like this is the right place to be..." There is a great security in that unspoken conversation that I haven't really felt with anyone before him. Every day is filled with anticipation just to get that middle-of-the-day-no-special-reason-other-than-to-hear-your-voice phone call and to see one another after work and ask, "How was your day?" No, I'm not giddy - I think you reach a point of maturity in your life when you realize that you shouldn't be feeling the same little butterflies that you felt when you were thirteen, sixteen, or even twenty. (Those butterflies didn't lead me to anything but tears, so I am not sad I don't feel them now.) I don't know exactly what I thought was missing before, but it isn't missing anymore...

Weekend update...

Well, last Monday seems like it was ages ago. There has been so much going on! Friday after work I met up with everyone at the pool hall for just a short time. My father's b'day was Saturday and we were having dinner with the family for him. So, I made it to the pool hall shortly after five and played for about an hour and a half. Then, after a quick stop to fill up on gas, I was on the road again to my parents' house. Mother cooked a great dinner and my two sisters were there along with my brother-in-law and two nieces and my nephew. It was nice to all be under the same roof. After cake and coffee and conversation with the family I was on the road again. My friend was playing in a softball tournament so I went to pick up my girlfriend (whose husband plays softball as well) and we went out the softball fields to watch them play. The weather wasn't too bad when we arrived, but it shortly turned quite chilly! Luckily I had my scarf and hat with me so I bundled up tightly! These tournaments (which aren't even in regular season) can last all night - we were happy to get out of there at one o'clock in the morning!!! Saturday morning it was the phone that woke me up - my mother. I don't even hope to sleep in on the weekends anymore b/c I know I'll get an early call from her!! This one I won't complain about (too loudly) b/c she was telling me to turn on CNN and that the space shuttle had crashed. The next couple of hours were spent on the phone with various family members and friends (many of which live in East Texas) to make sure they all knew what was going on and that everyone was alright. I went to college in Nacogdoches and lived in East Texas growing up. Many people I knew were calling in reporting what they had found either in their yards or in their pastures. It was a very sad morning. This crew will be missed - they lost their lives doing something they loved to do. The JA Bowl-A-Thon was Saturday morning so around 11:00 my friend and I headed to the bowling alley. We had a lot of fun and it was for a great cause. The bowling alley was packed with fellow co-workers as well as many who didn't work for the company. I really think it was a success. Of the five on the team I had the lowest score!! First game I bowled a 95, second game I bowled a 91, and the third I finally broke 100 with a 131!!! I don't know how much money was raised in total, but to everyone that sponsored me, thank you so much for generosity and support! It was truly appreciated! After bowling I met up with my girlfriend again (my friend had to run to his parents' house) and she and I had lunch and then decided to shop a bit. I have a second pool stick now so I wanted a case that would hold more than one stick. I went to the Billiard Factory, but they had a limited selection of cases and while nice, they were a bit out of the range I wanted to spend. The man working there asked me how much I was looking to spend and when I told him he sent someone into the back to see what they had. While they were gone he picked up one of the more expensive cases that actually held three sticks and handed it to me and quoted the price I said I wanted to spend!!!! YAY! He gave me about a 40% discount right I agreed and also bought a glove! Definitely a good shopping experience! Then we went to the mall for a bit before heading home to get ready for that night. We went to another friend's house for the evening where we ended up playing pool most of the night - are beginning to see a pattern here!?!? It was good, though, b/c I was able to practice with the glove a bit. They take some getting used to at first! Sunday was spent indoors for the most part. Just being bums. We had a good lunch at Sweet Tomatoes and then decided we wanted to play some basketball. I played all through high school and some during college (not for the school, just with friends), but I haven't picked up a ball in over two years! He plays a lot so I thought it would be fun to start playing again. Of course I definitely need some practice since it has been so long. Around five o'clock we arrived at his place and his brother and friends were already there playing!! So, I sat out and just watched instead! The evening was finished off with Love and Basketball and ice cream (well, I ate sherbet!) Whew...that was a lot.
