Well, here it is...

My last entry of 2002 - and I'm running late so it is going to be short! My nails are done, I got my eye-brows done, I still have to shower and wash my hair and get dressed. I wanted to do an entry about everything that has happened to me this year, but after thinking about it a while I decided that in just five and a half hours 2002 is going to be behind me - so why start 2003 (which is going to be a great year) recapping all the things that went wrong this year!?!? First step to making 2003 a great year...not harping on 2002, right??? So, HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of you - I hope you have a wonderful and safe time tonight how ever you choose to ring in the new year. As for me, I am celebrating with my closest friends, old and new - hope you are able to do the same!!
Right click and take this Baby New Year 2003, leave a comment letting me know where you're taking him and if you feel comfortable with it, leave your location...city, state, or country. Let's see who's celebrating 2003 and New Friends! Thanks Elaine

Happy New Year

1. Stay in or go out on New Year's Eve? Go out 2. If you stay home, do you stay up to ring in the new year, or fall asleep earlier?See above 3. If you go out, do you prefer to attend a party at someone's home, or go to a bar/nightclub/restaurant?I have done both, both are fun as long as you're with friends! 4. Make resolutions, or do you not bother?I used to...now I just say this is what I would like for the new year, but it isn't a resolution 5. Ever been to Times Square (New York City) on New Year's Eve, or just watched the ball drop on TV?I have been there, but not for New Year's Eve...and I have watched it on TV. Who hasn't? 6. Toast the New Year with champagne or a soft drink?Champagne 7. Do you have a special New Year's dinner or not?If we all go to mother's she cooks the traditional New Year's dinner 8. Do you already have your 2003 calendar, or do you wait to buy one until the stores mark them down?I already have mine 9. Take down Christmas decorations: before or after New Year's?After 10. Funny hats and noisemakers, or a quieter celebration?A LOT of noise HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!

Okay, here is a brain-teaser for ya! I changed the font color on my blog (notice the ABOUT desc. in the column to the left) and it worked perfectly! See the font is a new color and text...so why the hell did it stop there?? That is the only piece of text that was updated. I have gone through every single line of my template to try to find why it wouldn't change the font of anything below that...so please share some wisdom if you can figure it out!!

Family at Christmas...

Well, Christmas is over and now it is time to look forward to the New Year! This weekend we were in Broaddus to celebrate Christmas with the entire family, well, almost the entire family. There were a lot of people who weren't there, including my father. I think everyone had a good time, though. I know the kids did anyway. We had pinatas for them and goodie bags and took them on a hayride where my brother-in-law told them spooky stories and my cousin and nephew and niece's husband were waiting in the trees to ambush everyone!! It was a lot of fun for most, but the youngest ones spent much of that time wrapped up in a blanket hiding their heads in either my lap or one of the other adults that were on the ride!!!! Friday night before that we went out in Nacogdoches with some old friends and caught up on one another's lives, then Sunday we all went to church and after lunch I headed back to Houston. I was home for a while alone and was able to get things unpacked and put away. I have some shelves that need hanging so they are currently laying in my living room floor. Then I had a visit from "my knight" (I need to think of a better name for him I guess), who brought us dinner and wine, and then we just hung out and watched movies. Now I have two days to get some work done before there is another holiday! Tomorrow night is our New Year's Eve party at the Mesker-household - WooHoo! Can you believe this year is gone already!?!? Wow - I am glad, though. I am ready to get the New Year started!! Okay, now I have to get some work done...last Friday wasn't that productive around here!

New Year's WHAT???

Take the What Should Your New Year's Resolution Be? Quiz

Hmm...Dennon and I got the same answers on this one! Not sure what that means!?!?!?!

Making a few changes around here for 2003, so be patient through this stage!

Five More Days...Five More Days...

until I can say good-bye to this wretched year! I'll admit not all things that happened this year were bad...and it was definitely THE YEAR for some people. My niece who got married and is now going to have a baby. My sister who moved to a new home. Kenny and Elaine bought a new house, as did Susan and Oskar. And for me, too...we moved to our new office and I moved into a new apartment. These are good things, but there has also been a lot of disappointment this year and it just keeps on coming. I am waiting for a streak of non-disappointing days to arrive. Are ya out there??? Huh??? My theme for this year seems to be "Let Down"...I'll have to agree that yesterday's quote is most definitely being put to the test. Tonight is going to be so busy...not only do I have to pack b/c I'm heading to Broaddus after work tomorrow, but I also have last minute gifts to buy, pinata fillers, and the things I need to make my home-made gift for our gift exchange. It was my idea to make home-made gifts this year and I have put it off to the last possible moment!! Typical! This feels like the holiday/year that will not end. It is hard to believe it is already over, but yet it isn't over, and it isn't over, and it isn't over!! But New Year's is less than a week away (keep saying that...five more days, five more days) at which time we're going to have an amazing New Year's Party and say good-bye royally to this year!! Did I mention that it got c-c-cold outside this week. Started Monday night...and the temperature has continued to drop. I went out for lunch (Indian today) and was chilled to the bone. Brrr...

Today's postive quote was the motto for my graduating class and I added this picture to both MyPhotoBlog and Picture Yourself!! :) (update: since the quote changes daily it was - "OUR GREATEST GLORY DOES NOT CONSIST OF NEVER FAILING, BUT IN RISING EVERY TIME WE FALL" - Confucius)

End of Christmas???

Well, THE DAY is almost over, but there is still Christmas to come. I haven't really felt the Christmas Spirit this year, but I cannot blame that on a lack of Christmas celebrations: 1)Christmas at work, 2)Christmas at Roberts (where my Secret Santa was very good to me), 3)Early Christmas with my parents, 4)Christmas Eve and Day w/ my sister and her family, and still to come 5)Christmas in Broaddus w/ my family and with Dennon. Whew...sounds tiring just writing it all out! Well, tonight it is just me, though. Which is a necessity b/c I have so much work to do tonight and tomorrow. Tonight there is laundry to be done (in progress), the kitchen and dining room to be cleaned (half-way there) and tomorrow I STILL have last minute Christmas shopping to do. A friend is coming up to assist me in this endeavor tomorrow. Maybe an fresh perspective will be the inspiration I need to finally find a gift for those hard to buy for on my list!! I hope anyway, b/c this is my last chance before I leave for East Texas. The game on Monday was fun. During the game the weather outside decided to take a nasty turn and Elaine and I were parked a few blocks from the stadium. We thought we were trapped, but being two damsesl in distress I called upon my knight in shining armor to come and rescue us. Okay, so that was sappy...we weren't really in distress and the rain did stop about fifteen minutes later, but it was still nice to be rescued - sort of!!! :) So, after the game the three of us went to Slick Willies to play some pool and Elaine and I exchanged our gifts. In addition to my great christmas gift from Elaine, I also received a house warming gift!! I'll have a picture up later, but it is a throw pillow for my couch that says, "YOU WILL ALWAYS BE MY BEST FRIEND, YOU KNOW TOO MUCH" - hee hee, I should have given this one to Elaine...she definitely knows most of my secrets!!!! I would post a link to the gift I gave her, but it has been retired so the link is also gone. It is a Milefiori frog to add to her collection, one with a little fish in its stomach. Very cute! Tuesday was spent piddling (being lazy and playing) for the most part - my knight came back to see me and we spent the day just hanging out - downloading music and then going to lunch - before I went to my parents house. My father didn't think he was going to be home for Christmas (that's why the early Christmas), but it turned out that he was able to be here for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, even though he had to leave at 11:00 AM today. My entire life his job has demanded that he spend some holidays on the other side of the globe from home...now at times, it keeps him in this hemisphere, but out in the Gulf instead. It is much easier, though, b/c when the chance comes he can return home for a day or two before he has to be back at work. Couldn't do that if he were in Russia or Africa somewhere!! All in all, this has been a good holiday season so far. I am anxious to see my grandmother this weekend - and the rest of my family. We had another reason to celebrate this holiday season. My niece who was married in April has just found out that she is going to have a baby!!! She is announcing it to the rest of the family this weekend in Broaddus. Those of us who know are pretty excited and it is hard to keep it secret until she can tell everyone else - no they won't find out from here. None of my family reads my blog - my parents do every once in a while and sometimes Hailey (my niece), but I think that's it. Besides, Saturday everyone will know anyway!! Okay, I have taken a long enough break from my cleaning duties tonight and the night is growing shorter and shorter...so I better get back to work!! Have a good night everyone and I hope your holiday was a blessing to you.

And he's back again folks!!!

The Dancing Snowman Merry Christmas Everyone and God Bless!!!
Today we are at my parents' house and will be going to my sister's later to have Christmas Day lunch/dinner with her and her family. Her boys are both into music, so they got new drum sets and amps and speakers and...whew, it's gonna be loud!!! I hope everyone has a great holiday!!!

Holidays...

Well, I thought that maybe we would be able to shut things down around here early today...not a chance! The past couple of years everyone has been able to leave around noon. Have of my division is already gone, but I'm here until five. I am planning on driving down to see the Rockets play tonight. The weather is icky, but it is better now that it was earlier. Ugh...what a nasty entry Saturday, huh? Sorry about that - but thanks for the support from those of you who commented. It is good to sometimes vent to strangers - and friends! It is easier than keeping everything bottled up, I guess. The weekend was quite and eye-opener about some issues and while life lessons can be hard, they are worth going through if you are able to learn and grow from them. I have one week left in this year and then have an entire trip around the sun to make sure that my next holiday season isn't like this one. I haven't been to see the Rockets in about three years, so tonight is going to be fun! So, everyone try to keep dry and I hope Santa is good to you tomorrow night!

Time for a change...

What? I don't know. I just know that it is time to make some major changes in my life. These past few weeks so much has gone on that I feel like I don't even know who I am anymore. Life is strange, y'know? Just when you think you have a handle on things, the rug gets pulled out from under you. In my case, more than once. I was so proud of myself for getting back up after being knocked down a couple of times, but I don't know if I have the strength to face it too many more times. I don't know what is going to happen, but I know if something doesn't happen soon then I won't be able to handle it the next time. What am I talking about? Who knows? There has been so much going on at work that I haven't really had time to write much lately. But there has been even more going on in my personal life that I haven't felt comfortable writing about. Am I going to disclose all tonight? Hell no...well, maybe! You never know. But I want to say thank you for those of you who have been there to be by my side in the last few weeks. I want to thank you for being such wonderful people. You don't know how you have affected my life. I don't know if I even know how much you have affected my life! I also want to thank my family - my parents really - for being such great people. You don't know the kind of influence you have had on me. Why all this tonight? I don't know, but I feel like it is time to put a few things out there. I am not at the place in my life I imagined I would be at the age of 25. I have accomplished a lot more than many of the people I graduated with, but many times I feel as if they are far beyond me in life. I don't know why. I have a great job...very self-sufficient...educated...ambitious...I have traveled the world...seen places many people only read about...so what is it? If I knew that I don't think I would be venting this way!!!!! :) This next month is going to be very, VERY, busy at work. Which is good, b/c that is what I need right now. To be too busy to think about things, but when they slow down, then what? I think I have gone on enough...enough for tonight anyway.

My Secret Santa

Well, my Secret Santa was revealed to me yesterday! And what a small world - he in one of our very own H-Town Bloggers!! He chose two items from my Wish List that I am very excited to have: Lady Cottington's Fairy Album (I read the Pressed Fairy Book and loved it, so decided to add the next one to my wish list) & the 6-cup Espresso Maker I had picked out! I can't wait to try this one out!! Ann I'll have to tell ya about this once I try it out! Thanks Cody...what great gifts (even if I did pick them out myself)!!! I was very excited when I received them in the mail. In other news: I am sorry things have been so scarce around here. Work has been crazy and every night just about there has been something going on that I wasn't able to relax for ten minutes much less sit down and write/update my blog! Things are still crazy around the office, but today is Friday and I am making myself take a small break! The work is still going to be here on Monday - plus it is five o'clock and just about everyone else has already left! The rest of this month is going to be this way b/c there is so much to do before year end. Biggest thing is the project I have written about so much! I can't wait until it is all up and running. It really is a big accomplishment for our group! Well, I have a couple of errands to run before I head out to play pool with everyone so I had better get out of here!

Holidaze (part three)

1. Christmas dinner: turkey or ham (or something else)? Well, this year we are having fried turkey and a hog (we're southerners)! 2. Candy canes or chocolate? Both are a must! 3. Fruit basket or fruitcake? Fruit basket...too many people complain about fruitcake, although I kinda like 'em 4. Mulled cider or mulled wine? Cider, the wine is for later 5. Eggnog or hot chocolate? Both.... 6. Holiday cookies: homemade or store-bought? Homemade, of course 7. Roasting chestnuts or popping corn? Popping corn 8. On the buffet table: veggie platter or cheese tray? Mixed 9. Apple or pumpkin pie? I love both, but we never have apple :( 10. Christmas Day breakfast: before or after gift-opening?Before...can you wait that long? Tuesday's This or That

Early Christmas

New toys... Mother and daddy and I had an early Christmas tonight. Dad is going to work on Wednesday and is going to be gone during Christmas so we decided to exchange our presents early! So after work today I drove out to their house and we had presents and dinner. I was exhausted on the drive home, but as soon as I got here I had to install my tablet. When I was in college that was all I used, art minor. I don't even remember if we had a mouse in the art department building. Ever since, I have wanted another one. I like using the pen a lot better than the mouse, although this particular tablet came with a wireless mouse. So depending on the application I can switch for easier use! Okay...I have installed the software, played with the pen a while, written up about tonight - now I am tired again! My eyes are getting heavy, so I am going to go to bed! Good night...

Okay...you know I check out my referrals log and searches that lead to my site...this is one of the latest and one of the scariest!!! Nasty Baby Girls Child Screensaver??? I am not going to try to discern the meaning behind this one. So, the week is finally over and it has been such a busy week. Next week is going to be equally as busy...and worse b/c I just found out that the co-worker who has been working with me on this project is being pulled off at the very end for about a week b/c her office is behind. Well, okay...that's fine. I can handle it, but then I find out that her supervisor is going to be taking her place. Ugh! While this woman knows the work, she is insufferable to work with. I could so easily go on and on venting about this woman, but I fear if I tried my fingers would fall off. I am sure you have worked with someone that cannot seem to understand that the world does not revolve around them. She has her own little hidden agenda. One of our offshore superintendents offices in Lafayette with her and she misleads him on so many things. This project that we have been working on for so long is finally about to materialize and I am so excited about it. All of our test cases worked out so well and the outlook is very positive, but she has him very negative about everything. And she is constantly bringing up issues that we have gone over and over and worked out many times in the past. Sometimes I honestly believe she doesn't want this project to progress b/c she wasn't the front runner on it. She was never team lead on this, but insists on acting like Miss High and Mighty, without whom we would have all failed miserably and fallen on our faces. (Okay, I said I wasn't going to vent about her, but hell, have ya read the title of my blog!?!?!?) Many of the roadblocks we have faced were b/c of her...she continually finds new "issues" and "concerns"...in fact it is a joke that her famous last words are, "Well, I just have one more concern"...but the fact of the matter is that there are continually going to be issues. Even if we get everything perfect, which never happens, there are going to be continual maintenance issues. That is just how things work. But if we waited until everything was perfect, the project would never get completed - it is much better than the one we currently have! Ugh...okay, I have gone on enough about that. It is almost ten o'clock - I have watched NBC Thursday, Fraiser, and Just Shoot Me...I am getting sleepy and my eyes are getting tired of staring at the computer...and the tv! Nite Nite

Busy, Busy, Busy

Things have been pretty hectic around here. If I haven't been out of my office in a meeting, I have been doing the same from my office. Whew! I have been working on a project for over a year now that is finally about to get implemented. Yay! I am ready for it to go live. We have been working in our system's test environment for a long time now and starting Monday I'll be updating our Live system. It's about time! This week I (along with my counter-part in Lafayette) am going to be finalizing the templates that we are using and after I update our system on Monday it will be time to educate the masses on the changes they are going to see. I anticipate that there will be some resistance to the change, but we tried to make it as painless as possible and I believe most everyone will be more receptive than not. Outside of the office I have just as much going on. I have so much to get done for our Christmas in East Texas and I am no where near finishing my own Christmas shopping...while tonight I have to go to the grocery store and buy some necessities for the house that I am out of. Friday is Elaine's b'day so we are all going to go out together...Saturday during the day I might join a friend for an outing and that night for a while I am going to be taking care of a neighbor's three-year-old (or is he four??)...after that - who knows??? Sunday Elaine and I will be going to see The Houston Ballet perform the Nutcracker! I am so excited about getting to see it...and I believe Elaine is, too!!! Next week at work is going to be as busy as this week, so please be patient if I don't post often. I am going to have to sit down tonight and re-prioritize my to-do list or I'll never get caught up!!!

My Parents

My latest submission to Picture Yourself was posted this week...I took my parents to the festivities in The Woodlands for the Lighting of the Doves and we took this picture. I thought it was really good...enjoy Mom and Dad. I hope you like it. I love you both...

Great evenings...

Ah...miso soup, a california roll, a spider roll, two pieces unagi, and now my warm PJs and house-shoes, a fleece throw, and must see tv - looks like the makings of a perfect evening!!! A co-worker and I were supposed to go for sushi during lunch today, but our plans changed...though my taste-buds were still craving sushi. So, after work tonight I stopped by the sushi bar at Benihana for dinner. I like to sit at the bar so that I can watch the chefs preparing the sushi. One, Ly, asked me if I wanted to learn how to make it! I think that would be fun to do. Leisure Learning usually has classes for that. I don't know when I would have the time, though. The way things have been lately I am too busy! Maybe after the holidays that would be a good project for me. I have a current project to work on actually. I was sort of deemed coordinator for our big family Christmas get-together this year - 60+ people. So, besides sending out emails to everyone with dates and who was bringing what, I also asked that this year everyone (adults) bring homemade gifts. Every year, we bring white elephant and play the game - you pick a gift and the next person can either take yours or choose a new one. I am sure you know the game. But instead of brining a white-elephant gift I thought it would be fun to bring homemade gifts this time. While I had a perfect idea for mine, I have since decided to use that for a gift for someone else - so now I am stuck about what to make. Also, I plan things for the kids to do. Last year my niece and I planned a scavenger hunt for them and had goodie bags for everyone. This year we are taking pinatas and goodie bags...I don't know what else we are going to do, though. Another addition to this year's get-together is that everyone is going to bring something to donate to Ronald McDonald House Charities. It started as just a toy drive, but now I have found, from speaking to a rep at the RMHC, that the House has a Wish List posted on their website. So, now I have sent that list out to everyone. If anyone doesn't want to donate toys, there are many other things they can bring to donate instead. Also, the lady at the House put me in touch with a reporter at the Houston Chronicle who is doing an article about families choosing alternative gift-giving for their family gatherings. I thought that if they saw the article it would be a great way to get my them excited about this project and maybe we could turn this donation into an annual event at our Christmas parties! Honestly...this is the first Christmas that I have looked forward to in a long time.

Trip Update!

Well, I didn't get a post done last night about my trip, but I did get all my photos uploaded! Most of these are of my cousins' children...they have five between the two of them! It has been six years since I have seen the older ones and this is my first time to meet the two youngest girls! We are all trying to plan a trip together in April (fingers cross that all can make it then). We have spent the first part of our lives not knowing one another b/c we were spread out all over the globe, but we are hoping to change that and for the most part it has been a successful effort! The trip was a lot of fun, though! I have done the tourist-thing out there before, so this time I just wanted to relax and enjoy being there. The only thing I really wanted to see (and thanks Ash for taking me) was West Coast Choppers...and I did!! We weren't allowed to take pictures of the back where they were working, b/c of obvious reasons. I don't think the show's producers would have like it...plus the huge sign saying NO PHOTOS was another hint!! But it was still great to go - so I went, I bought the T-Shirt!! We did go to one amusement park, too. We took the kids to Lego Land. Most of the rides there were geared to children under 12, but we able to accomodate adults for the kids who were too small to ride alone! What amazed me was the figures made entirely out of legos...and this! This is NY made entirely out of Legos. We were high up to see it all, but you can see the Statue of Liberty pretty well off to the left! Elaine you would have appreciated this part!! Otherwise, we spent a lot of time in Santa Monica at the pier, at Venice beach, out with friends, or just hanging out at home! One more thing I HAVE to share! One evening we went out for dinner and a few beers at a local hang-out. My cousin and friends warned me about it first...they said it was somewhat similar to Hooter's. Okay guys, this place is NOTHING like Hooter's! Texas Loosey's - when I first heard the name I was thinking Lucy's - as in Texas Lucy owned the place or something! No! Not even close! Our servers were girls wearing chaps and leaving little to the imagination...but the food was good, the beer was cold, and we had a good time! If you ever make it out to Torrence, as a Texan you should stop by and see what you think (said with tongue in cheek)!
