The seasons are actually changing in Houston...

Yay!!! This weekend is actually going to be like fall weather here!!! Houston is know for only having two seasons...summer (which usually lasts six months) and a soggy, wet season! We have definitely been experiencing the soggy, wet season the last couple of weeks, but today it is so beautiful outside! There is blue sky, puffy white clouds, and SUNSHINE!! Gloriously gorgeous!! Even though I like fall and winter...I don't like the gray skies that are present through much of our fall/winter seasons. When the sun is out and the seasons are changing East Texas and the Houston area really has beautiful colors...these are the days when working outside is much more preferable than sitting at my desk!!!

Fruits and Veggies

1. Apples or pears? Apples 2. Oranges or grapefruit? Grapefruit 3. Broccoli or cauliflower? Oh, this is a hard one...I love both, raw and cooked 4. Green beans or lima beans? Lima beans...I love lima beans 5. Winter or summer squash? I don't know the difference, but I like all squash 6. Blueberries or strawberries? Mmmm...berries, if I have to choose I'll go with strawberries 7. Tomatoes or potatoes? Tomatoes if they are vine ripe...otherwise potatoes 8. Peaches or plums? Plums 9. Peas or carrots? Peas 10. Asparagus or corn? Asparagus Tuesday's This or That

Watch the roads...they're wet!

We have been watching a wreck outside on I-45. Someone apparently hydroplaned and somehow ended up facing the wrong way on the freeway and flipped up on one side. It looked pretty bad. A lot of people up here have binoculars so I borrowed a pair and watched the emergency crew work to get the driver out of the car. Now, I know that we gripe about people who rubber-neck, but watching from here isn't stopping traffic so I didn't think it would hurt. It is amazing to see what happens when someone has a wreck...and by amazing I am referring to the number of wreckers that are immediately on the scene. At one time I counted FOURTEEN wreckers at the accident site. Unbelievable! So, not only were the cars that were trying to pass slowing to see what was going on and backing up traffic, but the sheer number of wreckers speeding to get passed the cars and be the one to haul away the wrecked vehicle was also a big factor in traffic coming to a stand-still. From up here we can see quite a distance and the traffic was backed up so far that I couldn't see where it started...it was a parking lot that went on for miles and miles! There was only on vehicle involved in the accident and for the most part it was off to the side of the road, but b/c of all the emergency response vehicles, which were few compared to the wreckers, the entire feeder was blocked off. We were able to make out the person that they pulled from the automobile through the binoculars and it appeared that the person was conscious and alright, b/c once they got her (I think it was a female) into the back of the ambulance they didn't leave right away. They stayed for a good bit before driving off and then didn't even turn on the lights or sirens...conclusion drawn: She wasn't hurt too badly! Traffic is just now getting back into the groove...and I am not going to get on a soap box (not a big one anyway) about the wreckers and how I feel about their reckless driving and speeding to get to the wreck site. Oh, did I also mention that at one point they all took off running up the freeway to get into their trucks and then sped off again?? We assumed that another wreck happened somewhere else and that one of the others had already been selected to haul away this automobile!

Party, Party, Party, Charity Walk

Well, that about sums up the weekend! Friday night we had a pumpkin carving party, Saturday we had a house-warming party, Saturday night we had a Halloween/Costume Party, and Sunday Elaine and I participated in The Human Race!!! Whew...non-stop weekend! I needed today off to relax from my weekend off...(no, I didn't take the day off, I am at work!)
BOO - this is my pumpkin I carved Friday night!

Crack Dealers

It's official...my friends are crack dealers...and I am the junkie! Last night I downloaded Dreamweaver, per a friend's suggestion...okay, I was up all hours last night working on it...learning, playing!! I couldn't turn off my computer. Not until my eyelids were preventing me from seeing the computer did I finally admit that I had to go to bed. I am not used to staying up too late during the week - this may become a problem now!!

I took these pics while on our last trip to Egypt and thought they would be more inspiring for my Theme Thursday pics...especially since it is so dreary and yucky in Houston today!! Thursday Threesome photo project

Finally

Well, things appear to be back up and running! Not a big deal...just irritating! It is another dreary looking day outside my window. Yesterday it cleared up in the afternoon. I hope it does today, too! There is so much going on this weekend and I am not ready for all of it! Yesterday I finally started to get things done...a friend is in town so he and I had dinner last night and then I drug him shopping with me for Pumpkins (Pumpkin carving party Friday night) and for elements of my costume (Halloween party Saturday night after a housewarming party that afternoon). Nope! I am not going to reveal my outfit! You'll just have to wait until the pictures get posted!! And speaking of pics - my Theme Thursday won't be up until later tonight. That was something I didn't get to last night...but I will tonight!

And any other colorful words I can think of! My web-hosting site is down. Damnit! So, in the next few hours things make get a little hairy around here, but hopefully it is only temporary and things will be back to normal soon!

100 Things

Well, I have jumped on the bandwagon and written up 100 Things about myself. I am not going to say 100 interesting things b/c you might not find all these facts to be mind-blowing! Nonetheless, I have put these facts out there for the world to see!! So, without further ado, here is 100 Things about me!

TV Shows

The Cosby Show or A Different World? The Cosby Show....of course Happy Days or Joanie Loves Chachi? Happy Days...I never watched Joanie Loves Chachi Cheers or Frasier? While I really liked Cheers, Frasier is still preferred Beverly Hills, 90210 or Melrose Place? Never really watched either one much Real World or Road Rules? I think I would have to go with Road Rules...it seemed to have more of a purpose Law & Order: SVU or CIS? I don't watch either The Osbournes or The Anna Nicole Show? While I haven't seen an episode of The Osbournes yet, I think I would have to choose it over Anna any day Diff'rent Strokes or The Facts of Life? Facts of Life VeggieTales or 321 Penguins!? I haven't seen either, but my best friend has a little plush figure from Veggie Tales that is so adorable, so I would have to choose Veggie Tales Degrassi or Degrassi: the Next Generation? Don't have a clue... Tuesday's This or That

Relaxation

"There is a huge difference between active relaxation and passive relaxation. Active relaxation refreshes and restores the mind. It keeps it flexible and toned for thinking. Great thinkers have known this secret for a long time. Winston Churchill used to paint to relax. Albert Einstein played the violin. They could relax one part of the brain while stimulating another. When they returned to workaday pursuits they were fresher and sharper than ever." - Steve Chandler, Author When I was in college I was an art minor...and I loved it. I often wished that I had majored in Art and minored in Business instead...but now am thankful it was the other way around (I was rather humbled in my ability when I saw the work of those majoring in art). I used to spend hours and hours in the graphics lab after classes working on projects. One of my good friends and I would find ourselves in the lab until the early hours of the morning and it never felt like studying...it was so relaxing! He was much better at it than I was and many times I would find myself neglecting my own project just to watch what he was doing. I was captivated. My favorite times were spent watching him do his painting, though. Art is a great source of relaxation. Anyway...since I got out of school the only thing I kept up with was photography. I bought the equipment and chemicals and set up my own darkroom, but over time got away from it. It has been over a year since I have been in there and I really regret that. Of course there is no way for me to set one up in my apartment, but hopefully one day I'll be able to get it back up and running. Drawing was also a good source of relaxation and I haven't done any in a long time. This weekend I spent some time at my mother's and went through my things and got all my pencils and easel and some other things and I plan on getting back into it now that I have a bit more time. When I was little I used to look at pictures in books and copy them...I still can't draw from my imagination. I have to have something in front of me to look at. When I quit drawing I was doing portraits...looking at pictures of family or friends or people in magazines and recreating what I saw. This was the hardest for me, but something I really enjoyed. Now that I have everything here with me I am anxious to get back at it. And today is the day that it is going to happen. I called in sick b/c all my symptoms from last week resurfaced (not that they actually all disappeared, but today I just had enough and called in) plus the fact that it is raining and thundering is so calming...I think today is the perfect time to sit down and work on some drawings... So, what do you find that relaxes you so well?

THERE'S A NEW BABY ON THE WAY!!

Congratulations to Melanie who has just found out she is going to have her first baby!!!! Congratulations Melanie & Cole

The Human Race

I just wanted to put out a reminder that the Walk for the Human Race is only a week away and thus far I haven't reached my goal...I am, however, 43% of the way there!! With your help I can reach my goal 100%!! I have a button linked to my plegde page for easy online contributions! Again, thank you for any support you can give to help fight prejudice in our city!!

Hooray for Drugs!!

After a few days my drugs have finally started working (taking this & this) and I am beginning to feel so much better!!! Another day and all will be well!! Yay! Last night I had so many dreams and I woke up several times during the night thinking about them, but when I finally woke to actually get out of bed and come to work I couldn't remember anything that I dreamed last night. I like to be able to recall my escapades of slumber. When I can't remember I feel like I have lost something. When I was little I used to have the same nightmare all the time. I am almost embarrassed to say what it was about, but I will. It was about the Mona Lisa, well not entirely, but she was a big part and the only part that I could relate to reality. Go ahead, laugh!! I put myself out there, but it's true. Why the Mona Lisa? Hell, I don't know...I was a kid, she looked scary back then. Don't try to analyze it...it was just a kid's nightmare, but I had it so often that I was able to wake myself up when I saw her face. I know, I know...it's strange, but I am sure that you have had weird dreams or nightmares repeatedly - haven't you??? (Why am I apologizing...it's my blog damnit)

Virtual What????

all designed to be maximally absurd... AND What happens when rock stars start watching Trading Spaces (Changing Rooms - British version)...they Rock the House?????

Ah...Ah...Ah...

AH-CHOO!!!

Strange happenings...

Okay, I'm still sick...and again, I'm at work! I can't hear today! Everything sounds so muffled... Anyway, parents are strange...yesterday before I left work I called to talk to my mother. C'mon when you're sick don't you want maternal sympathy -WELL YOU WON'T GET IT FROM MY MOTHER!!! Granted she'll tell me what medicine to take, but it's like, "Take the medicine, get well, and get back to work." As I stated before, she was a nurse so she is rather nonchalant when it comes to illness. Regardless I still would feel better when I'm sick if she is around...or at least on the phone. (Yeah, I'm close to her...) So, around 4:30 I decided I can't take anymore, shut down my computer, and leave the office behind for my pajamas, my couch, and plenty of warm blankets...I was freezing! So, about 5:30 my phone rings. Me: "Hello" - in my most pathetic sounding voice. Dad: "Do you have any coffee made?" Me: "No, I haven't moved...why?" - again in my pathetic sounding voice. Dad: "We thought we would come over...see how you were feeling." Me: "Okay, I'll put on some coffee..." - still sounding pathetic..."and bring 'O Brother Where Art Thou..." Dad: (laughing) "Okay, we'll see you shortly." So, about an hour later (they stopped to buy me drugs) they showed up at my door. Now, you don't understand the importance of this appearance. It takes an act of congress to get my parents out to my apartment (which most people pray for) and my dad would rather be home than anywhere!! So it was nice that they drove out and came to see me and watch a movie. Of course, though, as soon as the movie was over dad was ready to go home! I didn't mind that...it was already after nine o'clock! And they also brought Chinook with them. I hate that I can't keep him at my apartment, I just don't like the idea of him locked up all day while I'm at work. At my parents' house he has free reign and there is someone with him all day long and I know he appreciates that!

Theme Thursday

This Theme took a little time to figure out, but as soon as I saw this pen I decided it had to be the silliest thing in my possession!! We had "bring-your-kid-to-work day" a while back and since I don't have any children a couple friends and I hung out with some of our co-workers' children! They were a lot of fun and b/c I was with them I got a goodie bag - one of the things in the bag was this pen with our logo on the side! Thursday Threesome photo project

Ugh...

Yes, I'm still sick, but damnit I am at work. I have taken a decongestant and am sucking on cough drops. Beware those of you who might give me grief, b/c today I might just lash out...**cough cough**...and I won't be held responsible for my actions. Why didn't I stay in bed? Because I had a meeting this morning at eight o'clock, which I made on time, thank you very much. Am I going to hang out here the rest of the day...more than likely. I'm not a good patient and probably wouldn't stay in bed anyway, so I might as well stay here and be partially productive. At least up here I have a view of the beautiful weather outside and of downtown Houston!

Cough Cough

Yeah, that's right...I think I'm getting sick. And tonight I learned a good lesson. You shouldn't eat your favorite foods when you're catching a cold. It makes the food taste badly and you don't want to have a memory of your favorite foods not tasting rightl. (Steven Tyler and Pink are singing a duet on the VH1 Fashion Awards - this is the first time I have seen them together since I found out they were a couple.) Anyway...back to my dinner experience - everyone knows sushi is my favorite meal. Well, tonight after I worked out I came home, showered, dressed, twisted my still partially wet hair up, grabbed something to read, and headed for the sushi restaurant to enjoy a good meal...wrong. When you're sick (or getting sick) nothing tastes like it should, but I ate what I could and with the waitresses suggestion took the rest with me. I don't like to take sushi home b/c that's just something that should be eaten fresh, but she told me that it could be kept in the fridge and then put into the microwave to cook the food...hmmm, I don't know about that. I took it with me, but I think tomorrow instead of going into the microwave, my take-home will most likely end up in the dumpster as I leave for work. After my meal I did something I don't do that often...I ordered dessert. Tempura ice-cream - sushi places only serve ice-cream for dessert I have found. The time spent was enjoyable even though the meal itself wasn't. I took a Maya Angelou book with me and read several chapters while sipping my green tea. (Update: Steven Tyler is now onstage and just thanked his wife - so I guess he and Pink aren't a couple - I'm confused.) So, tonight I am going to wrap up tightly and keep warm b/c otherwise I might just be calling is sick tomorrow morning...hmmm, maybe I should wet my hair again and sleep under the fan. I'm kidding...I'm only kidding! Actually I have yet to call in sick once since I started this job...that's pretty awesome. I think I have left early once or twice b/c my migraines, but that's it. Even in HS the only time I remember being home sick was the last part of my junior year I became very sick and missed a couple of days. Hey, I grew up with a nurse for a motherl...if you weren't bleeding to death, then you were okay!!! (Which meant I never got to stay home from school).

Some things are just too cute...

Tee Hee... Once when I was in college I went shopping at the mall with a friend of mine. We ended up in the toy store...I don't remember which one. We wondered up and down all the aisles, played with various toys, found toys that we had played with as kids, and then I found the cutest baby doll I have ever seen! Growing up I had a hammock hanging in one corner of my room and it was filled with stuffed animals. I had a huge collection of them and those that know me today know that I have a couple that still hang out on my bed! This particular baby doll that I found at the toy store was tiny. It just fit inside two hands and had on a little dress, but it wasn't her appearance that was so cute. She had a voice...a laugh actually. And when you squeezed her the cutest sound of a child's laughter came out of her! It was so adorable and I wanted to buy the doll so badly. Thinking back I can't remember why I didn't buy it...the friend that was with me was my best friend who is a male and he probably told me that I didn't need it! He was right (if that is what happened), but I still think it was the cutest thing I have ever seen. You know, I am not "girlie" now, but growing up I had tons of dolls...of all kinds. Yes, including Barbie, along with her three story house with elevator, swimming pool, beauty salon, corvette, horses, work-out center...my niece had the McDonalds. My brothers and sisters were all out of the house by the time I was old enough to really play, so for the most part I entertained myself with Barbie and all her friends! Other dolls that were a big part of my childhood were Dumbo (a pink elephant my father bought for me when I was one that is still on my bed today), Annie (a little doll with a yellow dress that was carried around so much she is rather tattered today), Rainbow Brite, Care Bears, Popples...just to name a few. (You would have thought growing up with all that I would be more "girlie", huh?)

Dennon - beware if you ever have to have surgery!!

Problems with Fotki.com

Hmmm...a while back Fotki was down due to maintenance. Well, it seems they had lost all their files (or something of that nature) and were working on retrieving these files, BUT once they did I realized the addresses on these pics that I had linked on my site...had changed. Tsk, Tsk, Tsk...just busy work, but if you see a broken link it is most probably b/c of this issue! In other news: It is absolutely gorgeous weather outside today! I actually wore my jacket into the office today and again saw my breath this morning b/c it was so chilly! This weather is so invigorating and makes me wish I worked out there instead of in here...okay, well I really prefer to be indoors in Houston since we only see great weather a total of maybe five days a year. The other three hundred and sixty days it is total hell out there! (But really I'm not complaining...)
This-or-That Tuesday Vacations: 1. DisneyLand or DisneyWorld? - Hmmm, I've been to both and like the scenery in California, but I'm going to still have to go with DisneyWorld 2. Amusement park or Themed park? - Definitely Amusement Park, I love the rides!! 3. Seashore or Mountains? - Mountains 4. Hotel/Motel or rental house? - Hotel...you don't get room service when you rent out a place. 5. Guided tour or aimless meandering? - Usuallly aimless meandering (although I read up first to know where I want to go), but there are times when a guided tour is a benefit. 6. Drive or Fly or Boat? - Fly, I don't like to waste time in transit. 7. Close or far away from home? - Far away 8. Daytrip or by the week? - By the week. 9. Camping in a tent or the Holiday Inn? - Holiday Inn...camping is a whole other vacation. 10. Rent a car or drive your own? - Rental, b/c I don't like to drive a long way to GET to my vacation...I'll fly and then get a car there!

Getting back to my roots...

Can you guess what this creature is!?!? OKay, so I wasn't raised on a farm, but was raised in a farming town!! And this weekend I got to see the local wildlife up close and personal. I also got to see Parker this weekend. He is always such a happy baby!!! The weekend was good...a lot of time spent with family and friends...and dancing! After spending the day at my aunt and uncle's new home (Open House) with all the family, I went out to one of the places we used to frequent during college with friends! Mel McDaniel was there on Saturday night so there was a big crowd. It's fun to go back and see people you haven't seen in a long...and meet some new ones ;) Sunday was a long day...mainly b/c it started the night before I guess. I think that will have to suffice as my yearly "wild night out"!! OH - the weather was wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Weekend's Over

Well, I had a great weekend...and interesting! But I'm tired...so I'm going to go to bed. I did put a lot of new pics in MY ALBUMS, though! Sorry for the short post, I just can't stay up any later! Must...have...sleep... Later.

Party Preparations

Oh...today is going to be interesting! Tomorrow is the bachelorette party for a friend from work that I am unfortunately going to have to miss, so instead, I am going shopping for party gifts/favors for the event with another friend during lunch today!! Out in this neck of the woods you don't find too many "stores" for these sort of items...as a matter of fact to my knowledge there is only one. Okay, there you go...I posted a fun...er I mean...dirty link!!! My fans should be proud! So, what are we looking for?? Hmmm...item number one: a phallic-shaped cake pan! Don't think Wilton keeps that one in stock! I was thinking "little ken doll on a bear-skin rug" type of cake...but that wasn't what party planners had in mind, so we're off to hunt for a more memorable cake pan!! Should be rather interesting. Other items to buy?? Well, I think we are just going to go and see what is in stock! Our bride to be is on the more conservative side, but I think she has conceded to the wishes of the bachelorette-party gods and is going to get a little wild tomorrow night! I really wish I could be there to see our quiet little bachelorette when she sees what all the evening has in store for her!! I'm sure I'll get the full report come Monday morning, though!!! Update: Well, we went to the "store" during lunch and spent nearly $100 on toys/prizes/games for the bachelorette party!! Like I said, our bride-to-be is somewhat on the shy side so I can't wait to see the pics of tomorrow night! Everyone is going to have a good time...there were several things in there that had us saying, "What the @#$%$???" Well, it's back to work now :( OOPS! I forgot to say that we decided against the cake pan...it was pretty expensive so the hostess decided she would buy several "toys" instead...so that's why we ended up spending $100 on a lot of "stuff" instead of just the cake pan! It was; however, anatomically correct...FOR A BROBDINGNAGIAN!!!!

Disney Quiz

I am Jasmine!
Which Disney Princess are you?

You are one of the first Disney princesses to stand up for her rights as a woman. While you may NOT be a prize to be won, you are still quite the hottie, especially in that red harem girl outfit. Even when things may not seem the best at home, try to remember that running away from your problems solves little. You are easily tricked and manipulated, both by your enemies and people who love you. You have a special fondness for tigers. (quiz thanks to Kymberlie)

Technology

Click me for larger image...
Yay for me! I finally got on board with Theme Thursday! I've been wanting to for a while, but being the procrastinator that I am...well, I'm here now! That's what is important!!   The first thing I thought of when I saw this theme was my computer...of course! Rather a cliche' I guess, but technology is what we use everyday to make these blogs possible anyway...so why not give credit where credit is due!! Thursday Threesome photo project

Old Friends...

I got a call around 8 to come out to Hooters and meet some friends. I had come home from the gym and just lounged for a bit (and wrote my short little rant)...still hadn't showered, so I jumped in quickly and met them for about an hour. Then came home to surf/blog/read and saw that an old friend was online. We haven't talked in forever, but I sent her an IM and we ended up talking for a couple hours!! It was great to catch-up and talk. We were best friends in school, but she moved away and we didn't get to see one another as much. She is a wife now and mommy to two beautiful kids! Through talking to her, I found out another HS friend (and my first kiss) had been asking about me. I thought I would try to find him and catch up - she gave him my number, but I haven't heard from him. It is always so great to see people you haven't seen in a long time and see what they have been doing with their lives! I actually blogged about him a while back...on a post about my first kiss!!! He was a really great friend, too... THEN, Dr. Tremoulet and I spent the next ??? hours talking about life! Then the new sports bra I want to buy...and the fact that he put off doing his laundry! :D Now my eyes are beginning to get heavy...and since Mike helped my find the archived post I was looking for...I can finish this post and go to bed! I had planned on going to bed early tonight, but here it is 12:45 in the morning and I'm still awake! But not for long...Nite Nite!

Do People Disappoint You?

Have you ever had high expectations of someone...and then they turned around and act in the complete opposite manner you would have imagined? Or is it just that your imagination??? Are you not giving the person the benefit of the doubt. I always try to be patient with people, but I find myself jumping to conclusions about people and their actions. When you say you are going to do something...do it. When you say you are going to be somewhwere...be there. It's pretty simple...and if you have a very good reason why you cannot meet these two expectations...then DAMNIT at least have the decency not to leave the person hanging. Call/Write or something and tell them..."Sorry, can't follow through b/c #$^%%^&%*&"...c'mon people, it's called respect!!! Learn about it! Okay, that's enough of my rant for now...on to cheerier things!!! Bull Durham is on tonight. On of Kevin's cuter movies!!! And a fun one, too! I like baseball movies, I guess b/c I like baseball so much. I don't follow seasons and see who is doing what, but I love to watch the game...live preferably, but tv isn't bad.

Don't Worry...Be Happy

A friend sent this me and I thought it was appropriate since the weather outside was so nasty!! (thanks mel)

I hope everyone noticed the Please Sponsor Me addition to my blog!!! I am going to be participating in this year's Human Race and would appreciate all the support I can get. This is my second year to do this...Elaine introduced me to this last year and we will be walking (running if I can convince her) together again this year! So, please do what you can - Elaine also has a link on her blog so that you can sponsor her as well. Thanks in advance for your support.

Close Livin'

I have never lived close to work before...well, I did in college, but that wasn't real-life!! (Don't you wish, though?) So today walking back in from buying groceries I spotted my office and took these pics!! It is just so nice to be this close to work!

Yawn...

We had so much fun last night...and I'm paying today. I'm so tired. Today though I will get my oil changed. I didn't get it done yesterday...I also have to go grocery shoppig today. Interview with a Vampire is on this morning. I haven't seen this movie in such a long time. It would be easy after last night to simply lie here on the couch and finish watching it! I'm such a procastinator. I'm also taking Defensive Driving Online that I have to finish this week. Tomorrow we're going to mother's to have my sister's birthday dinner and the rest of the week I think there is something going on so I think I'll bully through and complete it tonight. They are at the scene in the movie where Tom Cruise turns Kristen Durnst into a vampire. I remember reading these books in HS. One of my classmates read the entire set of Vampire Chronicles, by Ann Rice. I listened to The Vampire LeStat on tape on a business trip, but I didn't enjoy it as much. It's thundering outside now...we have a slight front coming in over the next week. It will be nice to enjoy some cooler weather. It's October and we're still wearing shorts! It's crazy! I can remember when we were kids and in September I couldn't have swimming parties for my birthdays b/c it was too cold. Now we could continue to swim nearly until November! The limbs are blowing around outside; I can hear the thunder...if it's gonna rain, come on! I have always loved bad weather. When I was in HS we lived on two and a half acres on the lake and had a big deck outside where mother and I used to sit and watch the lightening storms. The reflection on the lake was so beautiful. And we had a sunroom on the deck and when the rains would start we would sit inside and watch from there. I have a big, nice balcony here that I can watch from as well, but there is quite a difference watching it out over the lake as opposed to watching it out over the city!

My Saturday

Well, let's see, the plan was to get my internet hooked up this morning - done; change my oil - not done; return things and buy jeans at the mall - not done; meet Kim (where is she) - obviously not done; come home and get ready to go out with Sean, Alice, Johnny, and whoever else is joining us tonight - still to be done. What have I been doing then? Well, got online and ended up talking to Mike for a long time, btw thanks for the conversation...and the links!!! Got my laptop set up - since it hasn't been online in quite a while it didn't have any of my favorites set up! First things first ya know!!! Fought with FrontPage (a battle I didn't win), cleaned the kitchen and bedroom, and am now doing laundry...well, writing about it while it's washing! I could still make it to the mall, but by the time I showered, washed and dryed my hair it would be after seven...do you know how many teenagers will be in the mall on a Saturday night??? No thank you... Yeah, so it takes me an hour to wash and dry my hair...it is long, thick, and curly...translation: a lot of maintenance!! I've gone through more than a couple blow-dryers!!! Anyway, now I think I'll just finish cleaning around here before meeting everyone and get my oil changed tomorrow. I was looking at my referrals (which I do quite often) and saw that someone did a search for "Pictures of cras and girls"...hmmm, I take a lot of pics and talk about them a lot, so it isn't a big deal, but can someone tell me what "cras" is supposed to be!?!? I'll have to see is Sean knows what it is tonight! Well, gotta change the laundry soon so I want to finish the kitchen before I get back to doing the laundry!
WooHoo...I am finally back online!!!! My high speed just got connected!!!

If it weren't for great friends...

Thanks Mike for all your help with correcting my template!!! It is finally looking the way it is supposed to and I'm so thankful!!!!!!!!!! We're all at Kenny and Elaine's house for movies and pizza tonight and Mike and I are hidden away working on the webring for H-Town Blogs and my template!!! Okay, mostly I'm telling him what I want and he is making it happen!!! Thanks again Mike!!!

Sushi?? Did Someone Say Sushi???

Well, the site already exists...but we would have done it better!!! This one has a quiz to see if you are a sushislut, and while I thought I would have scored higher, I only rated a 70%. Guess I need to practice a bit - and to be honest I haven't had sushi in about two weeks now. (That must be a record) This one, while slightly amusing, is more of a waste of space!!! Well, .net is still out there!!!!!

Lili's Aftermath

Rowan rig capsizes in Gulf of Mexico This rig was working offshore for our company...you just have to be thankful that everyone was evacuated already.

Missed Opportunities...

I don't know why I let things like this happen. I'm in a restaurant with co-workers for lunch (or shopping, running errands, out with friends...insert your own favorite scenario) when I see someone and instantly make a "connection" with them. You don't know what it is, but you and this person just can't seem to take your eyes off one another - oh, and just for the record, I don't believe in love at first site...it is just two people who seem to spark with one another. So get on with the story already!!! Okay, Okay... It's lunch-time and some co-workers and I decided to try out a new restaurant in the area. We order, are sitting and eating, having good conversation, and over the shoulder of a co-worker I suddenly make eye contact with, well, I don't know his name - another patron at the restaurant. Obviously there for his lunch break as well...and thus begins a meal of seeing one another more than those sitting at the table with us. I get up to get a refill: smile and nod. He gets up: smile and nod. And back and forth...until his party is ready to leave. They all get up to walk out and he is the last to leave, walking slowly out past our table, letting the others go ahead as we continue to smile, stare, and silently have our own conversation. Now he's out the door, but turns around and continues to look back into the restaurant as his friends get the car...they sit in the car for a while...finally drives away and at this point he waves good-bye. Now, if this were like any other missed opportunity it wouldn't be a big deal, but while in the parking lot I noticed that attached to his belt was a company badge from my company!!! So, now I have to know that he works here...somewhere, but in a company that employees over 2000 people spread out over three, wait four...um, five building (two have minimal staff) the chances are slim of seeing him again. Or I could run into him tonight on my way home...how frustrating is this going to be!?!?! Sheesh!!!!

Apparently everybody needs a little Jish in them...

And so the evening began! We met downtown and had dinner/drinks...and great conversation, then progressed outdoors to the patio where we really got to know one another a bit better!!! Our out of town guest seemed to enjoy our group and share a common interest for the Hummer as well as for the Mercedes!!! ;) Everyone seemed to have a great time! (Pictures credited to Matt...) I didn't take my camera, but Elaine, Matt, and Kymberlie took lots of pics!! I was really tired on the drive home, but once I got inside I was wide awake. (Don't you hate it when that happens?!?!) So, I hit play on the VCR (I had taped my shows) and got out my notebook and began to write for a while. I didn't get much written b/c I kept stopping to fast forward through the commercials...finally gave up and just watched the end of the tape and then got into bed at 2 AM...only to have to wake up again at 6:00...okay, so I didn't get out of bed until 7:00, but the alarm still went off at 6:00!

Back Online...

So, I moved recently and haven't hooked up internet or phone at the house yet...to be honest I don't believe I am going to get a "land-line". I'm always on my cell anyway and people already have that number so why confuse everyone...anyway! I wanted to get a cable modem, but Charter Communications is the only provider in the area and they aren't the cheapest. I wanted to sit through at least one month of bills to see how much $$$ I was going to have left to play on...turns out plenty! Anyway, I'm at my parents and my dad tells me, "Why don't you just get a phone line and get EV1 dial-up or something like that...you spend most of your time on the computer at work anyway. You won't be on it that much at home. Save some money and then you'll have a phone line at home." (It really bothers him that I don't have one...) So, I think about this for a while and almost about to cave when today I receive a phone call on my cell phone from taped message from a telemarketer...now normally I would be just hang up, but for some reason I listened. I think I was half-hoping that someone would pick up after the taped message so that I could yell at them for soliciting me on my cell phone!!! The nerve!! But as I listen I realize that it is Charter (my cable company) and they are offering a special on High Speed Internet these next three days...Hmmm...what perfect timing. So I write down the 1-800 number, make the call and as of this Saturday I'll be back on line (psst...and it was a great deal, too!!). The main reason I didn't want to deal with dial-up is...well, hell...you're on the internet, there are thousands of reasons not to want to deal with dial-up!!! Who has the patience??? Anyway, tonight we are going to Market Square Grille downtown to meet with fellow bloggers from Houston and Jish, who actually organized this happy hour. Two of my co-workers have started blogging (20/20 Kim Site) - before they got their blog up and running I believe they would have been classified as blurkers (doesn't that sound like a dirty word), b/c they had become fairly well acquainted with a couple of bloggers that they read often, but they themselves did not have blogs! Well, now they have risen out of that status and are excited at the prospect of actually meeting some of the people that they interact with on a regular basis in the cyber-world! It's fun to be able to help them out and see them asking the same questions that I used to also run to Elaine with when I first started trying to code!!

The Homeless Guy...

A while back I added a link to a blog called The HomelessGuy and have been reading it pretty faithfully. Many times in reading I'll leave a comment or two, which can lead people back to my blog, or give access to my email address. About a week or so ago I received an email from a reporter at USA Today expressing an intereste in Kevin's (The HomelessGuy) blog and wondering if I would be willing to talk to her about it. At first I was a bit hesistant, b/c honestly I have had mixed emotions about Kevin. He seems so intelligent and is very articulate and capable...and well, seem capable of not being homeless. When I read his blog I don't get the image of the homeless man that lives under the overpass in downtown Houston. I mean, he goes to the symphony, he serves on several committees for the homeless, he has a family (two children), he is intelligent enough to spend time in the library and learned how to code HTML and create his own Weblog, which he spends time on daily and connects with people thousands of miles from him and draws media attention. No, I'm sorry, that isn't what I envision when I think of homeless people...and frankly I didn't feel sorry for him, but I thought I should. This is where I was wrong. Kevin wasn't asking for sympathy...at all. He isn't really asking for anything except to share his life and to make people see things...well, life through different eyes. I understand that now, but it was hard for me b/c I think Smart:Capable; Capable:Employeed; Employeed:Not Homeless - which I guess isn't always the reality of the world that we live in. The article about Kevin came out today. Rev. Charles Strobel is quoted as saying that people want to see homelessness as a black and white issue and I guess I would fall into that category with the way of thinking I was following. Kevin may not be the stereotypical homeless person, but then how many do you know. I don't know any. Never have...he is the first one that I have really interacted with. In actuality his efforts to share this point of view with the world are to be applauded. No, I won't give money blindly through his PayPal button, as I have told him, but there are other ways to help out - and I have asked for suggestions from Kevin and he talks about ways in his blog. I probably won't do a turn-around and become a do-gooder for the homeless now b/c of reading his blog and many others who are equally as inspired as I am probably won't either, but there are still ways to help out. And I do know that I see my own life in a different light, which I count as a positive gain from reading Kevin's blog.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!

I wanted to wish happy birthday to my little (yeah right!!!) nephew who turns 18 YEARS OLD today!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROSS!!

Daily Accomplishments:

Workwise: Not-a-lot... Otherwise: Well, I worked on my blog (links and such), helped Kim get her site up and going. She has had the site for a while, but hasn't been posting b/c she didn't have it looking right, so we worked on it some...put her on a couple of webrings for exposure, added comments, a couple of contact buttons (it's a partner blog), and a few little things! Yay! Now she's up and posting! Or will be soon enough... Tomorrow is my close @ four o'clock. Am I ready? Well, ask me that tomorrow morning. I did a lot of work yesterday on my templates...most of the work. Today all I really had to do was add some coding, but I don't think (hope) that will take me long tomorrow morning and I'll be able to upload everything well before four o'clock. Which would be good...especially if I run into any problems. Sheesh! I work better under pressure, though! Those who know me know this about me...or maybe I just think that about myself!?!? **pondering the thought that maybe I shouldn't put things off so much** Anyway...so now it is almost five (twenty minutes till) and my parents want me to come over for dinner tonight. See this is why it was better working out in the mornings...so that when things came up in the evenings it was alright. But I'm going to their house, b/c this was the third attempt my father has made today to get me out to the house. Earlier it was b/c he wanted me to be out there if the weather got back (note: beautiful blue skies outside my window) and then something else **I forget** and finally mother is making a new dish...I think he wants me to come over. So I said I would...ick, have to make that drive to the other side of Houston. Isn't that why I relocated closer to the office? To avoid that commute??? Well, too late now, I have said I was coming and I hate it when people back out on me so I am not going to back out on my parents...

High in the clouds...er...fog

I can't see anything out the window today...well, except for the column that is always there. I am up on the 28th floor with a window office that faces downtown and today I can't even see the street below!!!!!!! I can see the ledge below...but everything else is solid white! There is fog everywhere today! Yesterday was so terrible...I had so much work to do and had such a headache. I muddled through and was here until five working...but it wasn't pleasant! I wasn't pleasant! I still have today and tomorrow until three o'clock to finish the template that I have been working on. My plan was to go home yesterday and not move for the rest of the evening...didn't happen. I had laundry to do and dinner to cook. I bought tofu the other day at the grocery store, b/c I really enjoy it when our chef downstairs makes it...so I thought I would give it a try. Well, I think I need to experiment some more...I seasoned and stir-fried with veggies, but didn't like it. There are tons of recipe sites out there for it though, so I am not giving up. Well, b/c my head was still hurting I really didn't feel like going to any more effort for dinner...so out went the veggies and I simply reached for some potatoes to cook...fast, easy, no thought into it and I spent the rest of the evening on the couch - with the exception of the doing a load of laundry, which I would have left another day, but I was running low on under-garments!! ;) Anyway...it ends up that didn't go to sleep until after eleven. My headache started to subside and I couldn't sleep so I began flipping channels. And lately at night I have been ending up on the Discovery Channel watching Jesse James either at his shop making bikes or on Monster Garage. I don't know the first thing about metal work or engines or any of that (although I do love motorcycles), but I the show is awesome!! So interesting...and entertaining! Hey, it's a lot better than flipping and ending up on The Anna Nicole Show and not being able to change the channel! That is like watching a train wreck...you don't want to look, but can't seem to change the channel. Luckily I haven't flipped past her show in weeks...I don't know what her ratings are doing right now, but I imagine they are fading. She just bores to you to tears! I had heard about Jesse James from a couple of friends a few weeks back, but had never seen it...now I have seen it a few times. I am usually too sleepy to watch all of it, though. I saw the bikes that he made for Shaq and Goldberg - Goldberg's bike was delivered to him at the bike-rally in Sturgis. I had heard of this before, but didn't really know anything about it. It looked wild... Okay, I'm not a biker-babe wannabe - just found an interesting show to watch and thought I would share... In other news...well, there really isn't other news. I have recouped from my weekend away, but I'll be returning to Broaddus on the 12th for my Aunt and Uncle's Open House. I am very proud that they are finally into their house. They have been building for almost a year I think. My uncle has done most of the work. This is their retirement house and it is very beautiful! They have two (maybe three) ponds on the property, which is four acres. There really hasn't been a lot of landscaping done yet, b/c they are still doing finishing touches on the house itself. I'm sure once all that is done, my aunt will get him working on the landscaping for her! Well, I am avoiding the inevitable...there is work to be done!
